Skopje Airport installs eGates

NEWS FLASH

Skopje Airport has put into operation two new automated eGates with the aim of improving passenger processing times. The pre-security gates are able to scan boarding passes and grant passengers access to passport control and security areas. The new technology will aim to increase processing capabilities compared to the system’s predecessor which comprised of personnel manually checking boarding passes. Automation has been identified as a key way to improve the airport system by being more accurate, reliable and faster. The eGates were developed by Turkey’s BioAffix.

      from SKP instagram account:

"Патниците со рачен багаж и онлајн регистрација, сега можат да одат директно на Пасошка контрола, откако претходно самите ќе направат скенирање на авионската карта. *Поради регулативите на ЕУ, државјани на земји кои не се членки на ЕУ, а кои патуваат во некои земји од ЕУ, задолжително е да се појават на шалтерите за регистрација. **** ✈️One of the latest novelties at Skopje International Airport are the Pre-Boarding E-Gates!
Passengers with hand baggage and online check-in can now proceed directly to Passport Control, after they scanned their boarding ticket. *Due to EU Regulations, non-EU country citizens traveling to EU country, must show to the Check-In Counters."

  2. This isn't an e-gate. What's referred to as e-gate is usually passport control, not boarding pass checks.

An e (electronic) gate is something that electronically checks any type of document. Whether it's a boarding pass or passport has absolutely no bearing.

    2. Yeah, I understand the literal meaning of the term. However, you'll find that what's usually referred to as "e-gate" is a passport control system used by immigration authorities (as it reads biometrics and such).

    3. Correct. This isn't an e-gate and is not a big deal that will improve the passengers flow. If TAV want to improve its airport they should follow those airports in the world with machines for issuing boarding passes and even with service to issue passports at the airport.

It doesnt work for large majority of passengers. If you didn't do online check-in, if you have checked baggage, if you don't have EU passport... There is no automated boarding at gates, no support for passport checks like global entry or nexus... Learn something instead of stupid bravo comment

This e-gate is only a boarding pass control, like on every airport. In BEG they are 2 persons looking at your tickets before you go to the passport control! Did you ever fly from an other airport???

I flew from almost 80 airports, from totally manual mini airports to fully automated state of the art airports. Are you capable of addressing shortcomings of SKP system mentioned in previous comment? No?

    4. The e-gates work for any passenger that goes to any EU country except Germany, that's what they state on the website.

  4. Nice and modern addition, good job! Really cool to see signs in 3 languages.
SKP seems to enjoy nice reviews too!

That BioAffix has certainly copied the design from somewhere.
