Montenegro Airlines drops Lisbon service plans

NEWS FLASH

Montenegro Airlines has suspended plans to launch services between Podgorica and Lisbon this summer. The Montenegrin carrier said, “Despite our plans to commence flights to Lisbon, we have temporarily suspended this project as a result of the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic”. Montenegro Airlines planned to link Podgorica with the Portuguese capital for the first time with a one weekly seasonal service scheduled to launch on June 22. It was to run until September 21. The Montenegrin carrier will resume commercial flights today after almost three months.

This is an extremely bad year for YM. I wonder how much extra cash they will have to use from the €155 million because of them not being able to fly to BEG? I can only imagine the massive losses they will have these days.

I know the government will fight to keep them alive but for consumers it would be best to let them go bankrupt and to have Wizz Air and Air Serbia compete on the market.

Wizz Air could easily run daily A320 flights on BEG-TGD and at least double daily flights to TIV in summer.

Apparently Montenegro is in a really bad financial state, they are struggling to pay off a loan for highway to the Chinese. I imagine if YM keeps asking for more cash, the Government will not be able to do it forever.

I am not surprised and it will get so much worse now when there won't be a summer season. I remember reading on here that YM got 155 million in several installments. Anyone know how many they will get this year?

YM did not get 155 in installments. It's supposed to get 155 million during the next 6 years.

Well installments in the sense of payments in the next six years.

Could this be the end of YM? Situation seens to be really bad

  4. Their Government decided not to open border for Serbian citizens. In this way they closed BEG airport for Montenegro Airlines as airport authorities would have to select passengers by citizenship if they can fly or not.

Yeah but that shows you how useless YM is for MNE. They are wasting millions on an airline that can basically profitably fly to one destination on a year-round basis.
