NEWS FLASH

The Montenegrin government has injected 10.4 million euros into its national carrier on July 21 to secure the company’s liquidity. Montenegro Airlines has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic with its revenue declining 15.1 million euros during the first half of the year. The carrier has also been banned from operating to its most lucrative destination - Belgrade - although there are growing indications flights to the Serbian capital may resume in September. Montenegro Airlines’ CEO, Vlastimir Ristić, recently said the company’s finances have been affectedby the ongoing pandemic and noted the government’s decision last year to provide 150 million euros in state aid over a six-year period has been put on hold and is being reviewed by the country’s competition watchdog.

Couldn't believe there wouldn't be any BEG-TGD/TIV flights all summer long!

What a waste of money for an airline of just five aircraft.

At how many aircraft a state owned airline stops being a waste of time?

And what's the point of keeping YM? What unique role do they play in MNE? Sure it made sense before W6 and FR entered the market but now?

YM is important. Great place for politicians to appoint family members. Great place for money to be laundered.

Ahh yes, you are right! :D
I do wonder if YM went bust and if the market was fully liberated, what kind of reaction would Wizz have? What would be a potential for them? I suppose daily BEG-TGD?

So it is no different than JU and OU.

it is a bit different, i personally see some sort of perspective and future in JU and OU, while YM is simply wasting of time and they have significantly smaller market and demand as well. now when they do not fly to BEG, they are totally irrelevant and don’t see them around in the years ahead...

Montenegro is in a terrible financial situation, they are struggling to pay out the loan to the Chinese for the highway. It is just a matter of time when will they pull a plug on Montenegro Airlines.

In the short term, there will be a lot of countries supporting their failing airlines, indeed the amount of bankruptcies is actually lower than 2019. More long term, there will be huge consolidation; all the ex-yu airlines will either be shadows of their former selves, if not completely gone.

The thing is that YM will get aid to get over this short period of uncertainty but what happens when winter comes? That's when they lose all of the money they made in summer. Will the government have another 10 million for them?

I see that from today citizens of Zimbabwe can enter MNE (but Serbs still not) so maybe that's a new potential market for YM?
