Zagreb Airport anticipates handling a million passengers this year, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, down from 3.4 million in 2019. “Zagreb Airport is currently registering a 70% decline in passenger numbers on an annual level. We expect for this trend to continue until the end of 2020 and for us to reach around 30% of last year’s traffic”, David Gabelica, a member of the Zagreb Airport management board, said. He added, “We have around thirty flights per day on average with about 2.500 passengers per day. In September last year, we would have up to 12.000 passengers per day, so this is a notable drop. We saw a significant turning point in August when a number of countries introduced stricter entry conditions for Croatian nationals due to the coronavirus pandemic, such as mandatory negative PCR tests for passengers or quarantine upon arrival. As a result, some carriers, such as British Airways, suspended their flights to Zagreb”.

Zagreb Airport was open for commercial traffic throughout the Europe-wide lockdowns in March and April. Despite a number of carriers temporarily suspending their operations to the Croatian capital this year, Ukraine’s Windrose Airlines commenced services between Kiev and Zagreb last weekend, while TAP Air Portugal announced the launch of its new flights from Lisbon, which will start next March. Zagreb Airport is currently served by Air France, Air Serbia, Austrian Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Eurowings, KLM, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Trade Air and Turkish Airlines. During last week, some 76% of all flights were cancelled when compared to the same week last year.

Croatia Airlines continues to generate the bulk of Zagreb Airport’s traffic, although the carrier has reduced its planned operations up until the start of the 2020/2021 winter season on October 25. Zagreb Airport welcomed 65.963 passengers in September, representing a decrease of 81.2% compared to the same month last year. The number of aircraft movements stood at 1.995, down 52.4%. During the first three quarters of the year, Zagreb Airport processed 758.321 travellers, a decrease of 70.1%. Aircraft movements fell by 55% to 16.790 during the same period.

would be good to know as the QR flights from SKP and SJJ were rerouted to ZAG, so if QR really flies only once a week from ZAG this change would make no sense.

I wonder what will happen with the airport's concession in terms of planned expansion. The airport was supposed to expand when it hit a certain number of passengers. Questionable if it will be reached within the concession period now.
