Luxair to launch Belgrade flights

Luxembourg’s national carrier Luxair will commence operations between its hub and Belgrade this summer. The airline will launch two weekly flights between the two cities, each Thursday and Sunday, starting June 3. Ticket sales will commence on January 25. It marks the first time the two cities will be linked with a nonstop air service. “Because travelling is a strong desire, Luxair and LuxairTours are constantly innovating in order to offer their customers the possibility of getting away from it all in complete serenity. By offering new destinations that meet market demand, Luxair and LuxairTours are trying to meet the requirements imposed by the context of the health crisis”, the airline said.

Belgrade will become Luxair’s third new destination in the former Yugoslavia this year following Podgorica and Tivat. Services to the Montenegrin capital were initially to begin last December but were delayed until February and have now been postponed until April, while operations to Tivat are set to commence on May 15 as planned. Elsewhere in the former Yugoslavia, Luxembourg’s national carrier maintains seasonal flights to Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar, which are due to resume in April and May respectively. Further details for the Belgrade service can be found here. Serbia has the second diaspora in Luxembourg of all the former Yugoslav republics after Montenegro, with over 2.300 Serbian passports registered in the Grand Duchy.

In the coming months, Belgrade is set to see a number of new routes launched. This Sunday, Nordwind airlines will commence flights from Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, on March 21, Eurowings will inaugurate services from Stuttgart, while on March 28 and 29, Wizz Air will introduce services from Sandefjord and Hamburg. In addition, Ukraine’s SkyUp Airlines will start operations from Kiev to the Serbian capital on March 30. The coming period should also see Aegean Airlines, Air France, LOT, easyJet, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Red Wings Airlines and Transavia all restore their operations to Belgrade which have been temporarily suspended. Changes remain possible.

    Hi all -
one off topic question, I'll be travelling from Belgrade in February and I need to come with my car from Macedonia. Are all those private parking near the airport secure enough to leave my car there for 5-6 days or I should pay little bit more and leave the car at the official airport parking?

    Thanks

They don't have the aircraft for it. The ATR would take forever and the Airbus would be way too large. If they had a regional jet or leased a CRJ900 again like they did the last few years (2020 excluded) perhaps it could work, at least on seasonal basis.

Also good to see that Serbia is simplifying entry for business people. "Serbia has opened its borders for businesspeople from the entire world, who will be entering this country from tomorrow by a special simplified procedure, which is different from the rules that apply to other travellers. At the initiative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, the
Government of the Republic of Serbia has allowed foreign and domestic citizens, who enter the country for business reasons, to cross the border only by previously informing the Chamber on their arrival, and afterwards, within 24 hours after entering the country, to obtain and submit a negative RT-PCR test or antigen test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus detection"

Why isn't the Montenegro diaspora booking tickets? I mean there is over 8000 of them there

I'm also very surprised that they didn't sell a single ticket to Montenegro for over a month. Seems a bit odd.

I would also add the resumption of Cairo flights, they were loaded into the system today. That is they were brought back.

BEG seems to be roaring back into life!

I think it needs to do more to attract new airline. Give better conditions, have a proactive management. Don't see what else it can do.

LuxairTours seems to be behind this so I think the idea is for their tourists to be coming to Belgrade for holidays. Up until yesterday 84.000 people were vaccinated against covid which is great. That's roughly 1.2% of the population.

Funny how in 2021 only Wizz Air massively cut their BEG plans while so many airlines are either launching flights or boosting existing ones.

Flights are still massively down on last year by all airlines.

Fun fact: domestic media powerhouse based in Lux reported on LUX-BEG route announcement on their website but unlike other news articles they blocked comments for that one.

So with the addition of Luxembourg, there is now only a small pool of countries not directly connected to Belgrade in Europe (those that have airports): Iceland, Ireland, Portugal, Slovakia, Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia & Finland.
Mind you Portugal, Finland & Moldova were in plans to launch but were then scrapped (Helsinki also may come back post pandemic, who knows) and Bratislava served out of Nis.
That is quite amazing when you think about it.
