Low cost carrier Transavia plans to add its second destination from Ljubljana with the airline to introduce services from Paris Orly Airport to the Slovenian capital. Based on a draft schedule, operations are expected to commence on October 24, but tickets are yet to be put on sale. The airline has published return fares from the French capital to Ljubljana starting from 49 euros. Transavia already maintains services from Amsterdam to the Slovenian capital, which are currently run three times per week. The budget airline’s parent company, Air France, maintains daily flights from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Ljubljana through its Hop subsidiary.

Last year, Air France handled 26.261 passengers between Paris and Ljubljana. During the pre-pandemic 2019, when flights were also maintained by Adria Airways prior to its collapse in September that year, the route saw 101.635 travellers. In addition, in 2019 there were a further 4.685 passengers flying indirectly between the two cities on a single itinerary. The French flag carrier planned to operate double daily flights to the Slovenian capital in the summer of 2020, but these did not materialise due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company previously noted, "The Air France - KLM Group strongly believes in the potential of ex-Yugoslav countries. We have a real desire to serve the region to our best. Transavia maintains sustained growth and is developing its network from all its bases in France and the Netherlands to the former Yugoslavia”. Previously, low cost carrier easyJet maintained operations between Charles de Gaulle and Ljubljana as well, from December 2010 until March 2012.

Ljubljana Airport is seeing signs of recovery, handling 27.953 passengers in June. The figure represents a decrease of 85.2% on the same month in 2019. Aircraft movements stood at 1.650. During the first half of the year, Ljubljana airport welcomed 70.011 travellers through its doors, down 91.1% on the same period in 2019. “If there are no additional restrictions as a result of the pandemic, we expect to offer seventeen scheduled destinations by the end of October. It is very encouraging that the number of flights on existing routes are constantly growing and the outlook for the winter season is already promising”, the Head of Airline Management at operator Fraport Slovenija, Janez Krašnja, said.

Finally a new LCC route.

Only shame it's an existing route (Paris)
09:03

They should find new airline for Berlin route.
09:04
Anonymous said…
Fantastic
09:04
Anonymous said…
Wonder what the frequency will be
09:04
Anonymous said…
And here I was hoping KLM will replace Transavia.
09:04
Anonymous said…
Probably 2-3x per week.
09:05
Anonymous said…
My guess 2-3x p/w in winter and 4x p/w in summer.
09:06
Anonymous said…
Who said it will not? And there is demand for both airlines on AMS route.
09:09
Anonymous said…
Good. Ljubljana needs more LCC routes.
09:11
Anonymous said…
True. If Adria and Transavia coexisted, I don't see why KLM and Transavia could not work, same as Air France and Transavia.
09:11
Anonymous said…
Nice!
09:12

Finally LJU waking up. New Air Montenegro route(s), new Flydubai flights and now Transavia.
09:12
Anonymous said…
Good news
09:12
Anonymous said…
The only issue it lost several airlines at the same time.
09:13
Anonymous said…
"down 91.1% on the same period in 2019"

This is not good. Most European airports are down 70%.
09:14
Anonymous said…
Such as?
09:14
Anonymous said…
Nice. AF seems to have done well in Ljubljana.
09:14
Anonymous said…
Just 70.000 passengers in first half? Tuzla had almost 20k more..
09:15
Anonymous said…
I'm surprised to see them start Ljubljana over Zagreb.
09:15
Anonymous said…
But in June Tuzla had less passengers than LJU so LJU will overtake Tuzla. I mean it's sad it's even come to this.
09:16
Anonymous said…
You already have two airlines flying from Zagreb to Paris - Air France and Croatia Airlines plus Ryanair is starting flights to Beauvais.
09:16
Anonymous said…
Sunexpress, Finnair not returning this year, BA constantly delaying and probably not returning, easyjet will probably cancel all LJU flights this year...
09:17
Anonymous said…
You had news about one airline just yesterday.
09:17
Anonymous said…
Except Sun express, all other are just temporarily suspended because of covid.
09:21
Anonymous said…
great. the more the merrier.
09:24
Anonymous said…
In addition to SunExpress, Easyjet will not return on STN and BER route. Perfect replacement for Ryanair and Eurowings. And it seems like Windrose will not start KBP-LJU (im quite surprised about this).
09:25
Anonymous said…
Will it be seasonal or year round?
09:25
Anonymous said…
It starts during winter season. It will be year-round.
09:26
Anonymous said…
Will be a nice addition to the new terminal :)
09:26
Anonymous said…
Year round if it starts in October..
09:26
Anonymous said…
If transavia would be enough loaded klm would immedietly change from transavia to klm. But I am also happy for new route, hopefully.
09:31
Anonymous said…
This so called "temporary" suspension are now re-applying each month...it's a disaster!
09:32
Anonymous said…
Ono kao: lepo ti stoji adidas trenerka uz BMW
09:37
Anonymous said…
You think Transavia is not enough loaded? You should look at the number of passengers on AMS-LJU and how much it grew up in just 3 years because of Transavia.
09:39
Anonymous said…
LJU is definitely an underrated. I am happy to see a new route.
09:42
Anonymous said…
I'll believe it when I see it land.
09:43
Anonymous said…
What were Transavia's frequencies on AMS-LJU route before covid?
09:43
Anonymous said…
This is good mainly because it will become a good alternative to AF which can be very expensive.
09:44
Anonymous said…
This makes sense. Air France is being heavily used by transfers from/to Ljubljana. So this will serve point to point demand.
09:45
Anonymous said…
I have never flown from Orly. How is the airport? Is it far from the city?
09:45
Anonymous said…
As far as i know it was 5x p/w in winter and 3x p/w in summer. More flights in winter than in summer.
09:47
Anonymous said…
Interesting. Thank you. Means frequencies are back to prepandemic levels.
09:48
Anonymous said…
Good for LJU but only of those flights will be realized.
09:50
Anonymous said…
Let's see if this can be sustained.
09:51
Anonymous said…
So in total we will have 4 new route at LJU this year?
09:51
Anonymous said…
+100
09:51
Anonymous said…
Flydubai, Air Montenegro (2 routes), Iberia and Sunexpress (cancelled).
09:52
Anonymous said…
Plus Transavia now.
09:52
Anonymous said…
Berlin was tried several times. By Adria and by eayjet. I'm not sure it will work.
09:53
Anonymous said…
Not bad
09:54
Anonymous said…
Good. Ljubljana needs more direct flights
09:55
Anonymous said…
And Israir. They planned 2x p/w in summer 2020 but flights were canceled because of corona. Now they are flying once per week on Tuesdays.
09:56
Anonymous said…
really hope that it will materialize.

happy to see a bit of hope
09:59
Anonymous said…
Why does it say Ljubljana - Orly 3 on Transavia's website?
10:10
Anonymous said…
Orly is actually closer to Paris than Charles de Gaulle.
10:15
Anonymous said…
Also it's huge. It's France's second busiest airport. They have over 33 million passengers in normal times.
10:15
Anonymous said…
Because it is Terminal 3 at Orly. The newest terminal and it is connected to the others so it's good for transferring.
10:18
Anonymous said…
This will be a good option for transferring to other cities in France since Air France has a good domestic network from Orly, plus New York.
10:19
Anonymous said…
If im correct, when Easyjet wanted to start Berlin route, it was seasonal at first, and even before it was launched it was turned into year round.
10:23
Anonymous said…
Finally some new arrivals for Ljubljana :D
10:23
Anonymous said…
I hope this can work.
10:28
Anonymous said…
Good to see Ljubljana in the line up
10:29
Anonymous said…
Flew couple of times to Berlin. It always had a nice load factor in all months.
10:30
Anonymous said…
It is also worth to mention, that there are 2 daily AF LJU-CDG in the system in winter schedule with 7AM departure and evening arrival.
10:31
Anonymous said…
Why did they stop the route?
10:31
Anonymous said…
There is a thing.. corona
10:34
Anonymous said…
But the route is terminated completely. It's not suspended.
10:37
Anonymous said…
What about IB to negotiate for MAD-LJU-MAD to convert to MAD-LJU-BCN-LJU-MAD? What about LJU-LED? What about DUB? What about Seasonal PMI/LPA/TFS?
10:40
Anonymous said…
Vueling is more logical for BCN.
10:42
Anonymous said…
Finally
10:56
Anonymous said…
I have a strong feeling that none of these announced flights will start. Where do I get this feeling? I guess ongoing cancellations of flights at LJU which were already on sale so far.
11:11
Anonymous said…
Anyone to bet that this will replace existing AF service?

Seriously, has no one wonder why Transavia announced flights from Paris, while there's daily Air France service? Do you really believe that the demand is so strong (remind you that H1 result is 91% down compared to 2019, worst in Europe)? Get real people.
11:17
Anonymous said…
A 2-3 weekly service to ORY will replace a daily (it was double daily when there was no corona) service to CDG, one of the biggest hubs in the world? If demand would not be so strong AF would be flying like 2 or 3 times a week with E170, and not daily with E190 on it most of the time. If there is anyone who should get real, it is you.

11:47

They have listed Orly-Ljubljana on their website from 24 OCT. Now just waiting for ticket sales to start.
12:56
Anonymous said…
And AirFrance is planning double daily...
15:02
Anonymous said…
It has a lot to do with Slovenia's entry requirements, which are out of the airport's or airlines' control.
16:54
Anonymous said…
Yay great!
16:55
Anonymous said…
It definitely won't replace Air France. Remember, this route used to be operated by Air France and Adria. Now there is only Air France. On top of that Air France handles a lot of transfers on this route so this will be an alternative to P2P passengers.
16:56
Anonymous said…
Are Transavia and easyjet the only LCCs flying to Ljubljana?
17:02
Anonymous said…
They are actually advertising special fares for this route at 49 EUR on their website. But still can't book ticket. Hopefully soon.
17:02
Anonymous said…
Don't feed the troll.
17:02
Anonymous said…
Wizz is also there.
17:03
Anonymous said…
I think we could see KLM at LJU pretty soon
18:15
pozdrav iz Rijeke said…
Formally, and even more price-wise, Transavia is definitely LCC, but it offers connections to AFKL network, it allows passengers normal size 10 kg cabin baggage free of charge, it has experienced and one of the most profesional and friendliest cabin crew, better than many legacies, it offers excellent buy on board offer, it treats employees with dignity and respect, and in my opinion has more characteristics of hybrid, even legacy, than only LCC
18:18
Anonymous said…
Fingers crossed.
23:17
Anonymous said…
+1 for Pozdrav. Agree. Transavia is quite a good airline.
23:17
Anonymous said…
You are asking too much @10.40 :D
23:18
Anonymous said…
Nice. So it means they stay the night in LJU.
23:18
Anonymous said…
Am I correct that Slovenia is now pretty much open to everyone? They keep changing these rules constantly.
23:19
Anonymous said…
Ljubljana needs any airline and route it can get so good to see.
23:20
Anonymous said…
Plus they will fly with a B737 while AF is with an Embraer
23:21
Anonymous said…
Are there any plans for AF mainline to take over the Ljubljana route?
23:22
Anonymous said…
Good to see things are moving in the right direction.
23:24
Anonymous said…
When will they start selling tickets?
01:07
Anonymous said…
Unofficially it is 2x p/w, on Tuesdays and Sundays.
09:32
Anonymous said…
It's gonna be tough one for Fraport even to keep existing airlines at LJU..
10:00
Anonymous said…
No, there is HOP planned at least until end of S22
10:37
Anonymous said…
It's not hybrid. The point is: Transavia is a pure LCC. Airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air are ULCC. That's why Transavia gives a better experience. But Transavia is also a network carrier, as it simply serves the networks of KLM and Air France as well. KLM and Air France also use Transavia to gain and maintain domestic market share at regional airports that are not profitable to serve with the main airline. So it is an LCC, but you should never see it separate from KLM and Air France. Transavia is their strategic asset.
