Split Airport remains Croatia’s busiest

NEWS FLASH

Split Airport has continued its run as Croatia’s busiest this September and is now certain to maintain the position until the end of the year. It welcomed 328.886 passengers last month, representing a decrease of 30% on the pre-pandemic September of 2019. During the month, Croatia Airlines operated the most flights out of the country’s second largest city, with a 23.5% share. It was followed by easyJet with a 17.7% share and Eurowings, which accounted for 10.8% of all flights. On the other hand, easyJet was the largest carrier based on offered capacity, followed by Croatia Airlines and Eurowings. The most seats were available on flights to Amsterdam, followed by Zagreb, Frankfurt, London Gatwick and Munich. During the first three quarters, Split Airport welcomed 1.363.413 travellers and is still the only one in the country to have handled over one million passengers so far this year. It has now reached 45.9% of its pre-pandemic traffic.

  3. I am still not convinced SPU will remain number one in Croatia until the end of the year. October already sees much less traffic, let alone November and December, when there will be almost no traffic, and on the other hand another FR plane based in ZAG and new flights expected to start, not only by FR but FZ and EW as well. Even if SPU ends the year as the first, the difference will not be that big, maybe up to 100.000 pax

In the future, I believe that SPU will eventually stop growing as all of it's traffic happens during the summer. The only way for SPU to grow is to expand the apron, the terminal and if possible build another runway and good taxiways towards the current runway. That would be the only way SPU could welcome more flights during the summer. Otherwise its not going to be able to grow in the already packed terminal and runway

Taxi way is enough beside makeing bigger apron. They can't get another runway because of the mountains and why would you get secind runway if you don't / can't have a taxiway for current one.

True that, do you have any info about future expansion plans for SPU?

No surprise here. SPU remains the airport with highest connections in ex-YU in summer. If I remember quite well, there was a summer when SPU had more passengers compared to beg.
