Bulgaria Air expands Air Serbia codeshare

NEWS FLASH

Bulgaria Air and Air Serbia have expanded their codeshare partnership with the Bulgarian carrier adding its designator code and flight numbers onto a number of its Serbian counterpart’s routes. Bulgaria Air has now begun codesharing on Air Serbia’s services from Belgrade to Ljubljana, Oslo, Podgorica and Tirana. Up until now, Bulgaria Air has only codeshared on the Belgrade - Sofia service, while previous codeahres on flights to Cairo, Nice and Helsinki are no longer operated by Air Serbia.

Nothing on Bulgaria Air's website though. None of these destinations are offered. Odd.

Some people need to input the changes...

So why make the announcement before everything is ready?

No one made the announcement. The codeshare flights were added to the system and ex-Yu obviously saw it. No need to be so annoyed.

Typically for Bulgaria Air, they first implement the changes on the GDS and then their website.

I am annoyed because they are not adding these flights so that Bulgarians can profit from €600 fares with JU to these destinations. :(

Yeah I understood you were going to spit on JU, first trying to formulate some story how they are to blame for the flights not being on Bulgaria Air's website and announcing it, which they didn't. Too predictable.

Only one that is predictable is JU ... unfortunately. Let's wait and see the fares once they are in the system

Even though the changes are not yet implemented on their website (probably on the GDS), it was high time to add underserved routes such as LJU and TIA. I guess they want to "compete" with Gullivair on the Tirana route as they will be increasing it to 4x weekly next month.
If I remember correctly JU also has a codeshare on the VAR-SOF flights with FB.

Gullivair's TIA flights are shown as ''sold out'' from May.

SOF seems to be doing really, really well these days. Demand seems to be booming. I honestly don't know who is traveling so much since Sofia is not a tourist destination.

SOF is not BUD or PRG as a leading tourist destination but sure is the entry point for all what is nearby: Rila Monastery, Vitosha Mountain, Bansko (small and cheap growing digital nomad destination) and obviously Plovdiv which is quite close even though it has its own airport. (On my opinion prettier than Sofia).
Dirty cheap flights for Italians. And GDP per capita in Sofia-grad is now almost €20k per year, which means more Bulgarians people travelling to new (charter) destinations.
Similar to Belgrade, there are cranes and new building sites in many districts in Sofia. Additionally, there is a stronger demand to the coast - Varna as it was in the top 5 destinations list in 2021.
The good thing, is that this whole region has been growing quite well during the last years. Region means: SOF, BEG, SKP, PRN...

There are a lot of reasons for that. Bulgaria ofc in in the EU and has a huge diaspora and a lot of international students. Espesially those international students tend to fly a lot. Besides that Sofia has two lc airlines(Wizz air and Raynair), which means more competetion and lower proces. Positve effect is that they have more passengers and the negative effect is that Bulgaria air really a big airline and has not many routes.

Gullivair soon will launch NYC route so it will be interesting will it continue growing with CHICAGO and Canada(Toronto) as these two destinations also are in their plans
