Air Serbia and Qatar Airways unveil codeshare partnership

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia and Qatar Airways have signed a comprehensive codeshare agreement allowing passengers seamless travel to over forty destinations when traveling on each other’s networks, starting from February 1, 2023. As  part of this collaboration, Air Serbia will add its designator code and flight numbers onto Qatar Airways’ service between Belgrade and Doha, as well as various points beyond Doha including Adelaide, Baku, Brisbane, Tbilisi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Muscat, Nairobi, Perth, Seychelles, Singapore, and Sydney. Additionally, subject to obtaining all necessary government approvals and once all conditions are fulfilled, Air Serbia plans to extend its coverage to Bangkok, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Phuket, Seoul, Tokyo, Yerevan, Zanzibar, and many more. As previously reported, Qatar Airways is also adding its designator code and flight numbers onto numerous Air Serbia destinations.

Commenting on the codeshare, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “It is our great pleasure to announce the codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways, known for its global network of destinations and premium service. We are joining forces to provide passengers with new connection opportunities and access to unique destinations from both networks. Through this cooperation, we believe that we will be able to jointly bring more traffic and opportunities to Serbia for trade and tourism, as well as to increase traffic between the two hubs”. Qatar Airways Group CEO, Akbar Al Baker, said, “This partnership will allow us to expand our footprint in the Central and Eastern European markets where we are looking forward to offering additional travel choices for our customers. We are extremely proud to unveil this partnership with Air Serbia, the leading airline in this region since it was founded in 1927 and we look forward to working effortlessly together”.

“Belgrade is an important route for Qatar Airways, and the partnership with Air Serbia will definitely expand and improve our presence in the market in the near future and hopefully lead to more capacity. At this point we are still considering whether we will increase frequencies to Belgrade”.

''JU added its code to Yerevan, Tbilisi and Baku''. This means we won't see Air Serbia in the Caucasian region yet...

    1. Or quite the opposite - this adds up connectivity options (for sure more expensive) to their own direct service, hopefully in the very near future - so a synergetic move...

MD14:26 wasn't TAROM the best option for traveling to Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan? Why would anyone waste 10 plus hours just to fly from Belgrade to the Caucasus via Doha?

    4. Anonymous14:46

Well it could be targeting the huge Russian population that now lives in these countries who can't transfer through Bucharest.

    5. Cannot find on TAROM's website that they fly to the 3 Caucasus countries. And even if they did, it would be logical from JU's perspective to offer code-share options via multiple partner airlines - and then to add to those its own service - so that passengers can find it feasible to buy JU tickets. Btw, at the moment, most probably Turkish, via Istanbul, offers best connections to the Caucasus.

"subject to obtaining all necessary government approvals and once all conditions are fulfilled, Air Serbia plans to extend its coverage"

So if getting all the paperwork was not a showstopper for this codeshare announcement, why are we still waiting to hear about the other major codeshare agreement that was announced for the Q4 2022?
