NEWS FLASH
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has begun Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) testing of its new central processor building, which is due to open to the public this month. This Tuesday, the airport simulated check-in procedures and handling of five flights (seen in the video below). As previously reported, the new facility will feature check-in desks, commercial space, passport control, security, arrivals hall and baggage handling facilities. Air Serbia also plans to elevate the passenger ground experience through the use of the new central processor, more of which you will be able to read on EX-YU Aviation News next week. At the same time, Belgrade Airport has begun the introduction of its new inserted runway, with radio navigation and landing aids, as well as changes to navigation procedures at the airport, which are being rolled out until March 23.

DeleteThose angled lines of the windows and ceilings make me feel dizzy. Completely unnecessary, especially for an airport. If they didn't want to invest in any outstanding architectural solutions, they should have just kept it clean and simple.

ReplyDeleteThe airport was an absolute chaos and the worst part is that access roads are nowhere near completed. I think they'll need at least three weeks to fix everything. Someone failed really badly at setting up a functional system. Hopefully this whole mess is resolved by the end of March.
The access roads will not open at the same time the new building opens (which will happen in a week or two). Entrance to the building will at first be through T2. Access roads should be ready for the start of the summer season.

What are you talking about ? Everything is way way better and smoother then was last December.. as expected some construction but moving well in every direction considering how much work they are putting into and around that airport. Negative people are never going to be happy on matter how much improvements this country puts into this infrastructure.
DeleteI am literally at the airport at least once a month so I know what I'm talking about. Ever since they closed the roundabout there was continuous chaos. Now it's even worse because you are forced to drive past the long-term parking and then make a U turn in order to reach T2. Only problem is that at that point you merge with the road from the right and with the one coming from Ledine. Since there is no police to regulate traffic people have to do it themselves.
DeleteThey tried to create a drop off zone in the long-term parking but no one is using it.
It's not about being unhappy about everything but about being realistically critical. They have made a mess out of access roads and have done little in order to fix it.
If you want to park at the remote parking and take a free bus, you still get stuck in traffic. So overall this comes down to extremely poor planning.
Yesterday's queue started past the ATC control and it took us 25 minutes to reach long-term parking. Which is a distance of maybe 700 meters?
I am very happy and proud when anything good happens in our aviation industry. Not just in Serbia, but also all of Balkans. Hence, I am also happy that this airport got to develop into something better.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Belgrade airport is generally really bad looking. When you look at this top photo, there's no design, it all looks just chaotic and even that control tower just looks weird. All together everything looks as if someone found parts of different airports at some imaginary scrapyard and just put random re-usable sections together. It's there to serve the purpose, but no one will be impressed by it in any way.

DeleteAirport needs to be functional and comfortable indoors. Who cares how does it look from above!? I have been to hundreds of airports and have no idea how they actually look loke from outside or above.

DeleteAnonymous20:07 you are pure example of it . Go to Miami or Totonto, G7 countries and see facilities thst have no updates in decades. Their gouvermant can not even find any money to upgrade one part of the airport. It would be a huge news there if they can upgrade anything, so what you are saying is not true .
DeleteThis is what you get when, instead of building the brand new airport building, access, runaway in close proximity, you opt to reconstructing / upgrading the existing facility. It is just a natural progression of the deal that the Government had with Vinci. It could have been better and requesting a brand new infrastructure, even if it meant cost sharing.
