Ryanair to temporarily discontinue Tuzla flights

Low cost carrier Ryanair plans to discontinue flights to Tuzla from June 1 due to an ongoing spat with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Directorate of Civil Aviation. The airline commenced operations to the city last November with services from Vienna, Memmingen and Stockholm Arlanda Airport. All three routes are also served by Wizz Air, which boasts a base in Tuzla, although the carrier maintains services to Stockholm's Skavsta Airport instead. Ryanair confirmed the routes were being discontinued for the time being. It is believed the airline has not passed on a 1.5 euro per passenger tax to the Bosnia and Herzegovina Directorate of Civil Aviation since starting operations to Tuzla. If the tax is not paid in the coming period, the airline will be banned from operating to Tuzla by the Bosnian regulator.

Ryanair currently maintains two weekly flights from Tuzla to Memmingen, ending May 30, three weekly rotations to Vienna, which will be discontinued on May 30 too, as well as two weekly flights to Stockholm, ending May 31. Passengers who had tickets booked past these dates have begun receiving notifications of their flights being cancelled. Ryanair had initially scheduled flights to Tuzla back in 2021, however, discontinued sales on its initially planned routes from Weeze and Baden Baden after the head of the Supervisory Board of Tuzla Airport said the local government did not sign off on an agreement with the airline so as not to put its business partner, Wizz Air, in an “unequal position” and cause “unfair competition”. Eventually an agreement with Ryanair was struck the following year.

Ryanair entered Bosnia and Herzegovina’s market in 2018 with services to Banja Luka. The airline's Director of Route Development, Ray Kelliher, said last year, “We look forward to growing in Bosnia and Herzegovina over the coming years and being able to announce more new and exciting routes for next summer”. Based on existing capacity, Ryanair will hold a 17% market share in the country during the first full month of the 2023 summer season (April) compared to 36% held by Wizz Air. Ryanair is Europe's largest airline, the largest low cost carrier, and one of the world's largest airlines as measured by international passengers carried.

Or he (she) is Uhljeb with mindset stuck in 1950 who finds unacceptable FR taking what is "theirs by God's will" (or Party will). This one without a smiley.

No, because Ryanair are criminals taking subsidies from the Airport and making demands to be treated in a way no other Airline could get. Then when they don't get their own way they leave. Zagreb Lise money on each Ryanair flight and get it back by ripping off other Airlines. The E.U need to investigate Ryanair!

      Isn't ZAG privately owned?

Talking about being treated in a way no other airlines could, which airline got as much subsidies from the Croatian government as OU?

    6. Incentives were available for all airlines under equal terms. Croatia Airlines could have opened all or even more destinations FR opened. Ryanair are business people taking opportunities on the open market. Criminals are in Buzin. Criminals who destroyed croatian civil aviation. Ryanair's LF is below average in Zagreb. You can see how quickly they are gone in Tuzla. Wizz is even worse, see Sarajevo.

      Delete
    9. I don't remember Tuzla or Sarajevo having Pan Am, Air Canada, Air Transat, Malaysian, Emirates, Korean Air. So, please don't compare apples and pears. In addition to that, there are plenty of FR destination which have lower LF. You also better check prices on most of FR flights, regarding yields. That's for the second An. For the first An. : I am not Ryanair fan. I am not happy FR heavily contributed civil aviation downgrade and prostitution generally. But from the passenger's point of view, they offer the best possible service for least possible money. I am just being fair. And it all don't change the fact that OU is controlled by criminals.

This should be regulated. You are not supposed to cancel flights a month before the flight is supposed to happen. This could really mess up someone's plans, especially for people from low-income countries. Some people save for months for the ticket and hotel to go somewhere. Either longer notice period or heavy fines IMO would be fair.

They are suspending TZL-FMM but are increasing BNX-FMM to daily which makes sense the area of Srpska around BL is much richer.
These routes are relying on gasterbajter traffic. With the economic situation in Europe no wonder fewer can afford to travel as much. This price sensitive market became even more sensitive.

Airports in poorer areas like TZL will feel this much more. SJJ and BNX should be fine in the long run.
