United Airlines sees strong Dubrovnik performance

United Airlines will resume its seasonal service between New York’s Newark Airport and Dubrovnik on May 26 following an excellent performance in 2022, which marked its second year of service between the two cities. During its four-month operation last year, the carrier handled 28.445 passengers on the route, representing an increase of 64.8% on 2021. However, last year the airline no longer faced competition from Delta Air Lines, which maintained services between New York’s JFK and Dubrovnik for a single season. United’s average cabin load factor on the route stood at a very high 93.3%, up 18.2 points on 2021. Further aiding the service’s profitability were healthy cargo loads.

Commenting on United’s service, Dubrovnik Airport said, “Flights from the US performed well above our expectations last year. These incoming tourists stay in Dubrovnik, which serves as a base for them to explore other places - nearby islands and Dalmatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Furthermore, these flights are important as they have enabled cargo transport to the United States. As a result, each aircraft departs with around ten tons of exportable goods to the States”. United will again maintain four weekly flights to Dubrovnik this summer with its Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, which has the capacity to seat 214 passengers, of which thirty are in business and the remaining 184 seats in the economy cabin. The service will run until September 27.

United Airlines noted, “We are delighted to return to Dubrovnik in 2023 and resume nonstop services to the United States. With the return of flights to New York/Newark, our customers in Croatia can take advantage of a direct connection to the US, as well as an unrivalled route network from United’s hub at New York/Newark, offering convenient nonstop connections to over ninety destinations across the Americas”. Brussels Airlines codeshares on the route. On the other hand, Croatia Airlines does not have its codes on any of United’s services but has indicated its willingness to conclude a codeshare partnership on the Dubrovnik - Newark route.

      Unfortunately AA had to stop DBV due to shortage of widebody aircraft but they said they will consider returning to DBV in the 2020s.

      DL seems to focus more in Greece on the Balkans region they operate from ATH to JFK, ATL and BOS I don’t see them returning to DBV.

      Of course they would, UA is really not cheap on the route. They are charing a pretty penny because they are alone now. JU does really well in JFK and they are becoming a popular brand among travelers going to our region.

      Of course @20.11, you are right, normal companies, even if not that big and famous as Brussels, don't do things like codeshares just like that, and there must be a good reason behind each and every codeshare. On the other hand, @13.28 question is like asked by someone employed or uhljebed in Croatia Airlines development & networking or marketing & sales

      I was on those flights last year. Bought the tickets several months in advance and they were $1,900 each return. I was traveling alone with a kid and I was not going to incur an unnecessary transfer at any cost. Probably they have many similarly determined passengers. It's crazy how all the competition gave up (DL from JFK, AA from PHL) -- UA is making a killing

    United is HUGE in EWR. I had no clue they had so many destinations and United Express has an impressive domestic US coverage. DBV will benefit a lot from US tourists.

      People from Kvarner and Istra and their families from the US, and I am talking big numbers here, in most cases use VCE. For people from ZAG, I doubt - it takes too long by car, and prices for OU are ridiculously expensive. United is not cheap either. And plenty of shorter and cheaper options available via MUC and FRA. Danke Deutschland!

      In the past, ZAG had direct and nonstop flights to New York, Chicago and Cleveland. There are two reasons why there are no such flights today : flag carrier uninterested and incompetent to start such flies, and market deliberately and voluntarily handed over to Lufthansa, leaving little or no space for the others

    Last year most flights went out 100% full with no standbys clearing for a seat, I was expecting UA would go daily this year. Hopefully next year they will start a daily service on a 787
