Low cost carrier Ryanair is poised to further grow its network across the former Yugoslav markets after announcing new services from Sweden to Sarajevo, Pula and Dubrovnik yesterday. The news came after the Swedish government committed to abolishing the country's aviation tax from July 1, 2025. Ryanair will introduce two weekly flights from Stockholm Arlanda to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital beginning April 1, and from Gothenburg to both Dubrovnik and Pula next July. However, further expansion is expected in the coming period, with the airline anticipated to partake in the ongoing subsidy tender for new routes by the Tourist Board of the Sarajevo Canton. “We have no interest in short-term agreements and deals. During my discussions with the airport’s management and government ministers I said that Ryanair is here to grow. We want to expand in Sarajevo”, Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jason McGuinness, previously said.
Route | Launch date |
---|---|
Stockholm - Sarajevo | 01.04.2025 |
Gothenburg - Pula | 07.07.2025 |
Gothenburg - Dubrovnik | 08.07.2025 |

In Croatia, Ryanair is aiming to strengthen its operations at its new base in Dubrovnik. “The agreement we have is to evaluate the year and based on that work on further growth”, the airport’s CEO, Viktor Šober, recently said. During 2025, Ryanair will enter the fourth year of the five-year Growth Incentive Model it has benefited from so far at Zagreb Airport. To maintain its subsidies, the airline must add at least 75.000 departing passengers during the year, with the potential for further discounts if it surpasses 150.000 additional departing passengers. This provides Ryanair with a strong incentive to increase its traffic out of the Croatian capital each year.
Ryanair is reportedly eyeing Macedonia's ongoing subsidy tender for the launch of new routes. It is yet to enter the market that is dominated by Wizz Air, which is currently facing challenges due to fleet issues and has significantly reduced its operations from the country as a result. In Niš, the CEO of the airport operator hinted at a potential Ryanair expansion, teasing "a pleasant surprise" by the end of the year without offering more details. Meanwhile, discussions between Ryanair and Montenegro’s airport operator have taken place regarding future growth at Podgorica Airport. The Montenegrin Ministry for Transport has confirmed it has reached an agreement with the operator to lower fees, aiming to attract new routes from low cost carriers.
Any chance they may open a base in Sarajevo?
ReplyDeleteThey usually don't open bases outside of the EU.
Delete09:04 - Is Tirana in EU?
DeleteMarrakech?
DeleteProbably, but definitely not this year or 2025.
DeleteThe guy literally said "usually", so it happens but rare.
Delete@9.07 They do not have a base in Tirana. All flights are operated by aircraft from other bases.
Delete@09:07
DeleteAlbania participates in the Open skies agreement so FR and W6 can open a base there and fly to both EU and non EU Open skies participating countries.
But they have not opened a base in Tirana. Anon 9.07 is just misinformed.
DeleteWhy do people keep repeating this nonsense? Ryanair has loads of bases outside of EU. Literally its biggest base is outside of the EU.
Delete^ Yes because the UK was outside of the EU when they opened bases there. Please.
DeleteAgadir, Marrakesh, Fez, Tangier, Prestwick, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, East Midlands, Bristol, Stansted, Bournemouth, Luton.
DeleteAll outside of the EU.
Again the UK was in the EU when Ryanair opened those bases. The only bases they have outside of the EU is in Morocco. They don't have a single base outside of the EU and UK in Europe.
DeleteMorocco has an open skies agreement with the EU.
Delete@09:59 No, UK was not in the EU when all those bases were opened. Newcastle was opened in 2022 for example. Why do you keep repeating the same comment if you don't know what you're talking about?
DeleteBelfast was opened in 2023. Norwich is opening in 2024.
DeleteHow many bases do they have in Europe outside of the UK that are not in the EU? 0. You were claiming Tirana was a base which it isn't. In fact they are flying 20+ routes from Tirana and doing everything possible not to open a base there.
Delete@14:36 Ryanair has 4 bases outside of the UK that are not in the EU. I literally listed them for you above.
DeleteI asked What other base in Europe they have that is not in the EU and UK?
DeleteSomeone is now claiming NWI is a base. Please stop the lies.
DeleteRyanair can have bases in the UK because they have subsidiary there called Ryanair UK. What are you talking about??? Just like Wizz Air has Wizz Uk and so on.
DeleteExcellent. Looking forward to see more new routes.
ReplyDeleteInteresting about the Zagreb subsidy. So they have to add more frequencies/passengers every year to keep the money coming.
ReplyDelete@09:11
DeleteThat's a good deal for ZAG.
You can tell it wasn't designed by some party bureaucrat but a privately owned business. They did a really good job.
DeleteIt was a good job because without them Zagreb figures still wouldn't have reached pre Covid levels based on the performance of non Ryanair routes. Dubrovnik got the same idea after they were headed for another poor year in 2024 after being well behind 2019 levels in 2023.
DeleteZAG is killing OU, that shouldn’t be the case!
DeleteOU is already dead
DeleteOU is fine.
DeleteWhen will we know the results from the tender for the Macedonian airports? It will be good to see Ryanair launching some flights from Macedonia such as Barcelona and Prague
ReplyDeleteMinister said for now there is at least 10 new destination applied and half of the airline are not low cost.
DeleteBravo Hrvatska!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see all those great news from Sarajevo recently, well done SJJ!
ReplyDeleteHopefully Prague or Krakow are announced when the subsidy call is over
DeleteBerlin will probably be too
DeleteI am happy for Sarajevo as well. 😃
DeleteI wish Ryanair would go bankrupt. I'm sick of them!
ReplyDeleteI support your wish.
DeleteWhat egoistic and hate you feel….. wow
DeleteOK boomer!
DeleteUnfortunately for you, they are probably the most financially stable airline in Europe.
DeleteIf raynair go bankrupt half of the european people will not fly anymore , you think everyone has money to fly regular airline ? For funny prices you fly all over europe , what do you want more? Go fly with emirates then.
DeleteRyanair come to PRN :)
ReplyDeleteUnlikely. PRN fees are way too high. And if you actually look at it, PRN management is doing a very bad job. They have attracted very few airlines during their management of the airport. They are content with the airport being served by charter airlines that sell tickets through tour operators. It is the only market in Europe where 80% of tickets are sold through tour operators as if it is the 1970s.
DeleteFair point. Now when I look at it, they really have not done much in bringing respectable carriers.
Delete@ 10:26,
DeleteFor fairness sake, Tour Operators in PRN have roughly 35-40% of the market, not 80% as you say.
Ryanair isnt coming in Pristina, but Easyjet is kicking Wizzair in the butt, soon leaving it with only 3 routes.
DeleteWishing Ryan a lot of success
ReplyDeleteApparently, Ryanair will launch Barcelona, Dusseldorf, Warsaw, Nice, Paderbon, Stuttgart and Turin from Skopje
ReplyDeleteReally?
DeleteThat would be amazing if it really happens.
DeleteSource: trust me bro
DeleteThey showed interest a few years ago
Deletehttps://www.exyuaviation.com/2018/08/ryanair-and-easyjet-show-macedonia.html
Barcelona, Dusseldorf, Warsaw, Nice, Stuttgart are actualy usefull destinations.
DeletePaderbon and Turin not so much.
Warsaw is already in service with LOT , would be good to see another destination.
DeleteRyanair does not and HAS NEVER flown to Nice! Neither they have base there, neither they do W flights, so there is no chance they would do SKP-NCE.
DeleteRyanair flies from STN and DUB to NCE. Stop making up things.
DeleteRyanair discovered many of Balkan countries way too late.
ReplyDeleteWell they are making up for lost time now :)
DeleteIf they were too late they would have failed and left already.
DeleteClearly they are succeeding though and that's why they are expanding.
I don't understand why they are not flying London Stansted - Ljubljana at least.
ReplyDeleteYou will hear "no demand" or "high density" from fanboys.
DeleteFraport isn't interested in playing the fiddle for an airline known for sucking airports dry. Hahn, Reus, Weeze, Modlin, etc. are all loss-making airports reliant on Ryanair
DeleteThere`s also an airport in Maribor.
DeleteI do wonder why no one flies to Maribor. Must be some reason.
DeleteHahn, Weeze, Reus and Modlin would not exist without Ryanair. They would be rotting away unused, closed down.
DeleteEasyjet used to fly from Stansted, Luton and Gatwick at the same time to Lju.
DeleteThey never launched Luton because of Covid. But Wizz Air flew it.
DeleteCovid is no more so there is no excuse.
DeleteHahn, Weeze, Reus and Modlin only exist because their local governments pay for their constant loses.
DeleteIn fact Warsaw Moldin Airport made a 3.4 million euros net profit last year.
DeleteOf course you conveniently forgot to mention it was their first profit year in history.
DeleteMacedonia needs Ryanair for a long time ago. Hope they fly to Skopje and Ohrid soon. With the new government now hopefully that's possible.
ReplyDeleteFinally a mention of INI, when gos is ignoring it fr should have it.
ReplyDeleteThanks to gos you have a new terminal and flights to Belgrade, Cologne, Hahn, Istanbul, Ljubljana, Athens and Tivat
DeleteAnd it's actually GOS or Airport operator, not Ryanair who mentioned a surprise. Stop saying something just to say and stop being negative about everything that you don't even understand.
Deletemy question is what will happen with the route VIE-RJK? is it still on the list for 2025?
ReplyDeleteThey are not on sale yet...
DeleteI hope they are not cancelled for next year.
DeleteIt's time for Ryan to open a permanent base in Zadar.
ReplyDelete..... and launch a few winter flights....
DeleteYes, couldn’t agree more. Some destinations would do great even during winter, like Eindhoven where they cover the Netherlands, Belgium and a part of Germany.
DeleteI still do not understand how every village in Romania has a bunch of cheap flights on November while Croatian coast is literally closed.
DeletePlease start flights from Germany to PRN. There is a huge potential to make:)
ReplyDeleteI hope they start SKP considering we are loosing easyjet next month. We won't have any non Turkish LCC serving SKP other than Wizz Air.
ReplyDeletewow I did not realize that. And you are right! There is no other European LCC serving Skopje other than Wizz Air when easyjet leaves. Crazy.
DeleteI really dont understand why they left. They started with 2pw and increased it to 4pw, had 60.000 passangers and choose to cut it all. Can it be a political game by the greek owner? Singe Agean are acting "mad" too...
DeleteLol
DeleteThey probably needed an aircraft for a route they think can bring them greater profit. Unfortunately only a Swiss airline can take over this route and I doubt there are any interested.
DeleteChair Airlines is a possibility.
DeleteI dont know why Swiss is ignoring ZRH-SKP as well as GVA-SKP. If the unknown Chair Airlines can fill up their planes to SKP daily with a ticket price of 100 euros, then for sure LX can also make a good profit on this route, plus they are the best airline of LH group and offer many connections in Europe, Asia, North and South America. Edelweiss is also flying four weekly to SKP and yet their prices of the tickets are not under 120 euros one way.
DeleteI hope for:
ReplyDeleteSarajevo-Berlin
Sarajevo-Barcelona
Sarajevo-Eindhoven
Sarajevo-Copenhagen
Sarajevo-Krakow
All of them could work well. Especially CPH.
Delete+1, from your mouth to whoever makes the call 😊
DeleteYou can only hope.
DeleteI am wondering what could this INI surprise possibly be?
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteFinally a good link to Stockholm for Slovenia. Via Trieste but still a good link on Tuesdays with evening flights. Will use this a lot 🙂
ReplyDeleteYou should fly from LJU! It has the best connections via FRA!
DeleteFR will open a base with 2 B737-800s from Skopje after tender process is complete.
ReplyDelete1 April came early?
DeleteI'm not the original poster but I do think TAV has realised it can't rely on Wizz for bulk of its traffic.
DeleteDoes Ryan Air fly to BEG? Can't seem to recall.
ReplyDeleteAny chance they open a base in BEG?
That's a double no
Delete^ you do realise he is a troll? He just wrote that so you would respond and then he will start his rant.
DeleteNo medication can help a patient with an urge to post comments about Ryan and BEG couple of times a day. I am not a real doctor, so perhaps there might be something really strong.
Delete
