Turkish Airlines’ low cost subsidiary AJet will launch three new seasonal summer routes to Skopje. The carrier will commence operations from Ankara, Mersin and Diyarbakir, complementing existing services from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Flights from Ankara will commence on May 31 and operate once per week until September 13. Services from Mersin’s Cukurova Airport, which also serves Adana, will launch a day later, on June 1. Flights will initially run weekly, increasing to two weekly from June 25 until their conclusion on September 28. Finally, the carrier will add a weekly rotation from Diyarbakir to the Macedonian capital, operating between June 29 and August 31. Tickets are now available for purchase through the airline’s website.

AJet faces no competition on any of the three new services. Mersin, a port city in southern Turkey on the Mediterranean coast, has a population of just over a million people. On the other hand, Diyarbakir is the largest Kurdish-majority city in the country, located in the southeast. It will mark the first time either of the two will be linked to a city in the former Yugoslavia with a scheduled air service. All flights between Ankara and Skopje are currently scheduled to operate with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, except for two rotations which will run with the B737 MAX 8. The airline will also deploy the B737-800 on all flights from both Mersin and Diyarbakir to Skopje.
The three new routes will add an extra 21.872 seats onto the Macedonian market this summer. During the height of the season, AJet will boast eleven weekly flights to Skopje. Unlike last year, the carrier no longer maintains operations from Bodrum. During the ongoing summer season, a total of four airlines run flights between Turkey and Skopje. In addition to AJet, they include Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines and SunExpress. With the latest expansion, Skopje will be linked to a record six airports in Turkey this summer season on a scheduled basis.
Wow very nice
ReplyDeleteWOW, exciting new destinations NOT!
ReplyDeleteWhat we need is flights to major airports in Europe, not Turkey.
But the airport managers are only trying to support their country's carriers at the expense of our connectivity.
I'm sure it's your connectivity...
Delete^I'm sure it is NOT yours and that is why you don't have a problem with the current state of affairs.
DeleteSure sure 😀
DeleteOnly in Balkans are people angry their airports are doing well
Delete^ and unhappy when it gets new routes.
DeleteSkopje needs more of this! Not just from Turkey, but from other underserved markets like Spain or the Gulf. Good start though.
DeleteNo this is real demand of what people are looking for. Before adding this they are doing reserarch of what is needed. I dont say we dont need Europe hubs , but Macedonia-Turkey relations are very strong and alot of families between the two country are using the air travel to visit their families. Plus there is alot of business and transfer passengers.
DeleteGreat news for Skopje!
ReplyDeleteAJet is quietly becoming a big player in the region
ReplyDeleteWhy do these routes have to end in September? Surely there’s enough demand from Ankara at least to keep it going longer.
ReplyDeleteBecause it's for tourists. Maybe Ankara could get extended.
DeleteThis is just beggining , of course if there is demand they will increase.
DeleteMersin is becoming more and more popular with tourists. The airport was opened just last August and it is getting a lot of new routes this year.
ReplyDeleteMersin is stunning. I highly recommend it. Beautiful beaches and sea but also a lot of historical sites to visit. Lots of Blue Flag beaches too.
DeleteYes very nice city. With the new airport tourism will explode this year. It is also close to Adana which is worth a visit.
DeleteWhat was the point to build new airport 33 km away from Adana airport??!?
DeleteAdana Airport was closed last summer and this is now its main airport.
DeleteDiyarbakir is definitely the most interesting one of these. First destination in Europe outside of Germany as well, so hopefully it performs well
ReplyDeleteI just googled- this is deep Anatolia.
DeleteWhat would the rationale be for this route?
It has a population of almost 2 million. People from there want to go on holiday.
DeleteAlso Skopje is cheap and affordable. Eastern Anatolia is generally poorer than Western Turkey, so Skopje is the perfect destination, since many locals can't afford to vacation in, say, Italy, France or Spain
DeleteYes so they will come in the peak of the summer and faint on the streets of Skopje when it is 40 degrees.
Delete@11.24 your daily dose of hate
DeleteAll red eye flights. But happy for the new routes.
ReplyDeleteGood idea to try these routes, as plane would be sat on ground in Turkey all night otherwise

DeleteFantastic news. The more new routes the better.

DeleteThat’s nearly 22,000 extra seats for Skopje just from AJet. Impressive! Shows how fast the Turkish market is growing here.
ReplyDeleteYes and strong relations between Macedonia-Turkey are on very high level. Plus Turkish tourists are NO.1 in Macedonia. And alot of family connections too. Great to see all those numbers!!👏
DeleteIs AJet standard LCC in terms of service?
ReplyDeleteYes. Standard LCC but offers connections through Turkish Airlines.
DeleteVery affordable prices as well. Nice new planes , good service , crew is also very friendly. I can surely say that all Pegasus,Ajet,Sun express are amazing in terms of quality service when flying out of SKP. Thats my experience.
Deletethese are mainly for the turkish tourists on Balkan round trips but i defo see Ankara becoming a scheduled destination
ReplyDeleteI also feel that Ankara will be year round from 2026..
DeletePegasus should hurry up before Ajet grabs that Ankara flights.
ReplyDeleteDoesnt matter who grabs it , it would be nice to be served all year round ... :)))
DeleteInteresting. I hope Ankara becomes a year-round destination.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed buddy!!
DeleteNice - three new routes at once. Hopefully Ankara will go year-round.
ReplyDeleteAnkara could go year round without problems!!
DeleteKudos to Turkish tourists and their huge interest for visiting Balkan countries.
ReplyDeleteIt’s not cause the Balkans are super interesting to see, it has more to do with the fact Turkish nationals need visas for pretty much everywhere else.
DeleteJust because they need visas, it doesn't mean that they are not travelling in EU, actually they're still travelling there a lot. But there's really a special interest in Balkans because of cultural similarities and common history.
Delete@13.24 oh yes they are super interested in.
DeleteAmazing news! More and more tourists coming to Macedonia!

DeleteThis is awesome news I hope they increase frequencies and upgrade to year round in future. Would love too see more flights to Ohrid aswell fingers crossed the good news keeps coming to Macedonias and rest of Exyu airports 😊
ReplyDeleteYes if it works they will extend or upgrade the frequencies for sure. This is just beggining. But yes amazing news 👏👍
DeleteSo Bodrum will not be served from SKP with any other airline ? I thought it will be running as summer seasonal place ,because it is so nice to visit , amazing sea and hotels offering ultra all inclusive packages with affordable prices for our budjet.
ReplyDeleteIt wont supprise me now if Pegasus schedules Ankara-Skopje as well.
ReplyDeleteAJet should launch similar routes to Belgrade.
ReplyDeleteIt can't. There are restrictions in the bilateral air agreement. Research.
