Turkish Airlines’ low cost subsidiary AJet will launch three new seasonal summer routes to Skopje. The carrier will commence operations from Ankara, Mersin and Diyarbakir, complementing existing services from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Flights from Ankara will commence on May 31 and operate once per week until September 13. Services from Mersin’s Cukurova Airport, which also serves Adana, will launch a day later, on June 1. Flights will initially run weekly, increasing to two weekly from June 25 until their conclusion on September 28. Finally, the carrier will add a weekly rotation from Diyarbakir to the Macedonian capital, operating between June 29 and August 31. Tickets are now available for purchase through the airline’s website.

AJet faces no competition on any of the three new services. Mersin, a port city in southern Turkey on the Mediterranean coast, has a population of just over a million people. On the other hand, Diyarbakir is the largest Kurdish-majority city in the country, located in the southeast. It will mark the first time either of the two will be linked to a city in the former Yugoslavia with a scheduled air service. All flights between Ankara and Skopje are currently scheduled to operate with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, except for two rotations which will run with the B737 MAX 8. The airline will also deploy the B737-800 on all flights from both Mersin and Diyarbakir to Skopje.
The three new routes will add an extra 21.872 seats onto the Macedonian market this summer. During the height of the season, AJet will boast eleven weekly flights to Skopje. Unlike last year, the carrier no longer maintains operations from Bodrum. During the ongoing summer season, a total of four airlines run flights between Turkey and Skopje. In addition to AJet, they include Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines and SunExpress. With the latest expansion, Skopje will be linked to a record six airports in Turkey this summer season on a scheduled basis.

DeleteNo this is real demand of what people are looking for. Before adding this they are doing reserarch of what is needed. I dont say we dont need Europe hubs , but Macedonia-Turkey relations are very strong and alot of families between the two country are using the air travel to visit their families. Plus there is alot of business and transfer passengers.

DeleteAlso Skopje is cheap and affordable. Eastern Anatolia is generally poorer than Western Turkey, so Skopje is the perfect destination, since many locals can't afford to vacation in, say, Italy, France or Spain

DeleteVery affordable prices as well. Nice new planes , good service , crew is also very friendly. I can surely say that all Pegasus,Ajet,Sun express are amazing in terms of quality service when flying out of SKP. Thats my experience.

ReplyDeleteIt’s not cause the Balkans are super interesting to see, it has more to do with the fact Turkish nationals need visas for pretty much everywhere else.
DeleteJust because they need visas, it doesn't mean that they are not travelling in EU, actually they're still travelling there a lot. But there's really a special interest in Balkans because of cultural similarities and common history.

DeleteSo Bodrum will not be served from SKP with any other airline ? I thought it will be running as summer seasonal place ,because it is so nice to visit , amazing sea and hotels offering ultra all inclusive packages with affordable prices for our budjet.
