All capital city airports in the former Yugoslavia will see their capacity levels grow in June, with Ryanair to remain the region’s largest carrier.
Belgrade Airport has the most available seats on scheduled flights in July, standing at 1.080.760. The figure represents an increase of 10% on 2024. Air Serbia will increase its seat count by 2.1% at the airport and continue to maintain its position as the largest carrier, holding 53.3% of all available scheduled capacity. A resurgent Wizz Air will grow its capacity by 41.5%. Zagreb follows as the second largest with 629.229 available seats on scheduled flights during the month. It represents an increase of 15.4% on the previous year. Croatia Airlines, which will launch five new routes from the airport in July, will be its largest carrier with 35.6% of total capacity followed by Ryanair with 30.2%. The flag carrier will grow its capacity 25.1% year-over-year, while Ryanair will increase its number of seats by 15.5%.
Pristina Airport will have 559.519 available seats, with capacity growth currently projected at 24.2%. GP Aviation has the largest volume of seats, holding a 33.4% share. It is followed by easyJet with 10.5% of total capacity. Skopje Airport will boast 366.691 seats in July, up 11.2%, despite Wizz Air continuing to reduce its capacity, down by 1.9% on the same month last year. It will still hold the largest share at 43.9%. It is followed by Pegasus Airlines with a 12.5% share and growth of 41.2% compared to last year. Sarajevo Airport has 364.930 scheduled seats on the market in July, representing an increase of 16.8% on 2024. Ryanair, which is growing its capacity by 129.2% year-on-year, is the largest carrier with 13% of seats, followed by Pegasus with 10.2% and 15.1% growth.
Podgorica Airport has 244.404 seats on scheduled flights in July, an increase of 3% on 2024. Wizz Air, which is growing its capacity by 7.2% on last year, is the largest carrier with 21.7% of total capacity, followed by Air Montenegro with a 17.7% share. Finally, Ljubljana has a total of 195.838 seats on scheduled services, up 19.2% on July 2024, with most carriers growing their capacity on last year. Lufthansa will be the airport’s largest with 15.2% of all seats, followed closely by Turkish Airlines with 14.3%. The Turkish carrier will add the most capacity at the airport in July when compared to last year, growing by just over 8.600 seats, followed by new entrants KLM and Eurowings.
Largest carriers by scheduled seat capacity in the former Yugoslavia, July 2025
wow less than 2,000 seat difference between Sarajevo and Skopje!
ReplyDeleteSarajevo really benefiting from Ryanair’s entry.
DeleteWow, that is insane! Well done Sarajevo!!!
DeleteAnd both could potentially become Ryanair bases :D
DeleteThey will likely enter Skopje but Sarajevo has better potential as it doesn't have a LCC base now and many interesting lines are unserved, catchment area is similar with slightly better economy in Sarajevo.
DeleteThey will go where they get the most money. In my oppion SJJ makes more sense since, like you say, they have less competition. But I think they will have much better cooperation with authorities in Skopje. We will see.
DeleteYou are probably right, but they do not often open bases outisde of EU. We will see.
DeleteThe overall difference between SJJ and SKP is still huge and its more then 1 million passengers on year base.
DeleteBtw Ryanair will not direct face any competition with W6 in Macedonia , their selection of routes are very carefully done. And yes the talks are also for base opening, because initial plan is to be opened between 10 and 20 routes.
Last anon, true the difference is still significant, but considering that just few years back SKP had double the number of passengers of Sarajevo, if it continues this trend Sarajevo might come very close to Skopje.
DeleteI agree with that but SKP is starting to grow from this year , 2024 and 2023 was miserable and one of the worst since 2019. And next year is expected to be even more succesfull. What I am happy for is even with Wizz cuts the airport growing!!
DeleteGreat to see capacity rising across the board. This region has so much untapped potential.
ReplyDeleteIt really doesn't
DeleteObviously does considering the growth levels.
DeleteWell if someone told me a few years ago that BEG would have flights to 10 destinations in Italy, 9 in Germany, 6 in Spain and places like Tbilisi, I would say they were crazy. So there is definitely potential for the whole region.
Delete+1 last anon
DeleteCroatia Airlines finally launching more routes is good news. Hope they make them sustainable beyond the summer months.
ReplyDeleteThey are struggling to make them sustainable in summer. Let alone beyond that.
DeleteWhen you have no sales strategy and rely on an aircraft type to mafically solve all your problems, that's what happens.
DeleteUnfortunately true.
DeleteDon't you worry about OU, it's only maluciousness pouring out of you.
Delete14.48
DeleteObviously you are the one who doesn't worry and doesn't care about OU because the way they are (not) doing business, the way they act, the way they increase losses and the way they do everything against sane mind and absolutely not taking single advantage of croatian market potentials is slow and painful way towards Adria fate, sooner or later. One must be either blind or very limited not to see that, or being instructed and/or paid to advocate incompetence, inertness, crime and corruption
Do you go around and advise people how to do their business, or OU is your only fixation? Non of your business, I'm telling you bud!
DeleteAdmin do you have the numbers for other carriers in BEG in June? Are they also growing?
ReplyDeleteYes, almost all airlines are with exception to those that have discontinued service - British Airways, Luxair and airBaltic. Eurowings is an exception to this trend, with fewer seats than last year. Other than Wizz and Air Serbia, airlines with the most added seats in July incldue Lufthansa, China Southern Airlines (did not serve Belgrade last July), Nouvelair, Turkish Airlines and KLM.
DeleteImpressive. Thanks, Admin
DeleteStrange how everyone asking admin for info omits to say please. In many cultures that is considered as lack of manners.
DeleteSince AirSerbia will overcome JAT numbers from 1987 it would be nice to see distribution of AirSerbia passengers across destinations (region, euro-med and intercontinental) and compare it to JAT where JAT domestic pax will be compared to region pax from AirSerbia.
DeleteImpressive comeback by Wizz Air in Belgrade.
ReplyDeleteWe love Wizz Air
DeleteI hope they will add more new routes. Wonder how Alicante is performing for them.
DeleteALC is performing incredibly good afaik, we'll see next month when AENA's statistics drop
DeleteBravo Fraport!
ReplyDeleteIf Ryanair launches Skopje, they will be reaching over a million seats per month next year.
ReplyDeleteYou mean Ryanair or Skopje?
DeleteRyanair obviously
DeleteGood to se SKP less and less dependant on Wizz.
ReplyDeleteAir Serbia’s capacity growth seems modest compared to others. Are they being too cautious or just hitting their limits?
ReplyDeleteThey’ve had aggressive growth in recent seasons and are growing their load factor and consolidating before launching another wave of expansion, especially with new long haul routes on the horizon.
DeleteBecause Air Serbia is currently in transition to smaller aircraft such as E190s and E195s which will help boost load factor and profitability.
DeleteAre they operating less Airbus's this year compared with summer season 2024?
Delete@09:14 Let's stick to the facts, shall we? Air Serbia had significant growth in 2023 but not in 2024. This is the second consecutive summer with, to put it nicely, modest capacity growth. Not getting into argument, just stating the fact about 2.1% July capacity growth.
DeleteThe airline's netowkr is close to 100 destinations from Belgrade. What more do you want?
DeleteJust stating restricted capacity facts, nothing else. What I want is between Santa and me.
DeleteAirbuses. Compared to.
DeleteBased on what is known so far, capacity will not significantly increase for next summer. That could change over time.
DeleteLjubljana is still far behind the rest of the region. The growth is good but the numbers remain underwhelming for a capital city airport.
ReplyDeleteStill a long way to go, but trending in the right direction.
DeleteDo you really think LJU is in the same position as the airports in ex-yu region?
DeleteGP Aviation being the largest in Pristina is fascinating. Shows how strong demand is for Kosovo diaspora flights especially in peak summer.
ReplyDeleteThey even made it into top 10 of EXYU.
DeleteThey are becoming a serious player. Hopefully with the Play involvement we read about a few weeks ago they will also become a serious airline.
DeleteCan people buy their tickets online?
DeleteYes, as of recently.
DeleteIf the planed virtual airline would hold the same market share as those tour operators hold now, it would make it the 6th largest in EXYU by seats count.
DeleteLooks like BEG will hit a million
ReplyDeleteSecond consectuive month with BEG over 1 million seats.
DeleteYes, Belgrade will likely have around 1 million in July, especially because in this number charters are not included.
DeleteSo when does Ryanair starts the flights from Skopje, should we expect an announcement soon?
ReplyDeleteThey are still in the negotiationgs phase.
Delete*negotiating
DeleteHoping for sooner rather than later.
DeleteSo far we can expect the news around August month
DeleteThe month of August, or simply, in August. Around August month is not correct.
DeleteThats what I said August we will expect the news.
DeleteWhat is driving all this growth in capacity at PRN.
ReplyDeleteDidn't GP Aviation base a sixth plane there?
DeleteNice to see all capital airports growing.
ReplyDeleteBooked London to Sarajevo with Ryanair for half the price I paid last year with Wizz.
ReplyDeleteok...
DeleteNot to mention Stansted much more convenient and closer to London city compared to Luton
DeleteCroatia Airlines has been here before. Summer expansion and then everything gets cut back in October.
ReplyDeleteThey are starting the season even later than usual - in July! No strategy whatsoever.
DeleteExactly what is fueling a 24.2 % increase in PRN? Any new destinations we haven't heard of? Or is it entirely frequency increase on existing routes?
ReplyDeleteFrequnecy increases, gp aviation added some routes and I think they even added a plane there.
DeleteNo new destinations, just frequency increase.
DeleteAnd its not only GP. Wizz for instance, used to have 4x week flights, now its daily. On select days even two planes a day from VIE
Will be interesting to see what winter brings and if the airports will sustain the growth.
ReplyDeleteIs that Zagreb Airport on the photo?
ReplyDeleteYes :)
DeleteNice line up
DeleteNo OU...
DeleteOf course no OU @11.11. They are at Minken and Vrankvurt, serving their Masters
DeleteSo market share of ex YU Carriers in terms of seat capacity, just a lit bit over 20% 🥺
ReplyDeleteSad. Would be drastically worse if you took JU out of the equation.
DeleteAnd drastically better if OU were real airline instead of political entity run by uhljebs and aparatchiks, and miserable shameful feeder on the biggest and most prosperous ex-yu market
DeleteJU has pretty good market share. Weren't some people complaining yesterday how it is 'barely' 50% (as if 50% is not enough somehow) but in the busiest month they have 53% share in their hub. That's pretty good.
ReplyDelete+100
DeleteIf it were significantly over 50% they would say JU has "monopolistic position in BEG". 🤣
Exactly
DeleteWell, makes you wonder if their share would be larger if they had enough capacity to meet market demands.
DeleteFor example, they are barely growing in LCA this summer while Wizz Air just announced that they are increasing it to 8 weekly, a new record! Four flights will be operated by a BEG based plane while the other 4 by a LCA one.
They will have two flights on Mondays, leaving from BEG at 00.05 and 11.05.
Dear @exyuaviation, do ZAG numbers account for OU’s latest reductions in capacity on new routes? Thank you🙏
ReplyDeleteYes they do
DeleteThank you @ExYu.
DeleteWondering if current situation in Middle East will have an impact on traffic. Particularly charters to Egypt.
ReplyDeleteNope
DeleteWe will see. Turkey not performing well in the charter market from southeast Europe this year. Not because of conflict but sky high prices caused by influx of Russian tourists.
Deletelast anon, you're correct about the Turkey market, we are getting cheaper prices now late August which is high season compared to what we paid for our vacation last week in the same hotel
DeleteSarajevo is the star of the year in my opinion. They doubling their numbers.
ReplyDeleteLjubljana has quite some catching up to do, despite the current growth.
It looks 2025 it will be a good year for most airports.
BEG 8.8 mln
ZAG 4.8mln
PRN 4.7mln
SKP 3.3mln
SJJ 2.3mln
TGD 1.8mln (still Titograd?)
LJU 1.6mln
+1 regarding SJJ, fully agreed, they are doing excellent last two years!
DeleteWow SKP results even with all W6 cuts still coming close to 400k in a single month ,👏 is it possible in August or September to see that number? 🤔 if Ryanair enters Macedonia then it will be huge boom for sure!!
ReplyDeletePegasus growth in SKP is wild :D I hope they will launch some new routes in future.
ReplyDeleteyou cant blame the mk government for losing patience with Wizzair. What a disgrace
ReplyDeleteWhos fault is then if not government ? Of course its their , they didnt do anything in the past 7 years for air traffic in MK, didnt even try to recover from Covid19,and let Wizz to do what they want, giwe them money for routes they never lauched, it is their fault for sure! Finally now is someone who really cares a out ait traffic and do something good!!
Delete@ex yu aviation news what do you think are the chances that Ryanair or (Wizz) will open a base at SJJ in 2026 (and therefore that taxes will be removed)
ReplyDeleteNobody can tell u that , that is airline decision and while there is no official statements or plans shared means nothing. Ryanair took a good portion of the market in SJJ so Wizz for sure will not open base there. And ryanair is not opening any base out of Europe for now , maybe in future... SJJ and SKP could be the ones
Delete
