All capital city airports in the former Yugoslavia will see their capacity levels grow in June, with Ryanair to remain the region’s largest carrier.
Belgrade Airport has the most available seats on scheduled flights in July, standing at 1.080.760. The figure represents an increase of 10% on 2024. Air Serbia will increase its seat count by 2.1% at the airport and continue to maintain its position as the largest carrier, holding 53.3% of all available scheduled capacity. A resurgent Wizz Air will grow its capacity by 41.5%. Zagreb follows as the second largest with 629.229 available seats on scheduled flights during the month. It represents an increase of 15.4% on the previous year. Croatia Airlines, which will launch five new routes from the airport in July, will be its largest carrier with 35.6% of total capacity followed by Ryanair with 30.2%. The flag carrier will grow its capacity 25.1% year-over-year, while Ryanair will increase its number of seats by 15.5%.
Pristina Airport will have 559.519 available seats, with capacity growth currently projected at 24.2%. GP Aviation has the largest volume of seats, holding a 33.4% share. It is followed by easyJet with 10.5% of total capacity. Skopje Airport will boast 366.691 seats in July, up 11.2%, despite Wizz Air continuing to reduce its capacity, down by 1.9% on the same month last year. It will still hold the largest share at 43.9%. It is followed by Pegasus Airlines with a 12.5% share and growth of 41.2% compared to last year. Sarajevo Airport has 364.930 scheduled seats on the market in July, representing an increase of 16.8% on 2024. Ryanair, which is growing its capacity by 129.2% year-on-year, is the largest carrier with 13% of seats, followed by Pegasus with 10.2% and 15.1% growth.
Podgorica Airport has 244.404 seats on scheduled flights in July, an increase of 3% on 2024. Wizz Air, which is growing its capacity by 7.2% on last year, is the largest carrier with 21.7% of total capacity, followed by Air Montenegro with a 17.7% share. Finally, Ljubljana has a total of 195.838 seats on scheduled services, up 19.2% on July 2024, with most carriers growing their capacity on last year. Lufthansa will be the airport’s largest with 15.2% of all seats, followed closely by Turkish Airlines with 14.3%. The Turkish carrier will add the most capacity at the airport in July when compared to last year, growing by just over 8.600 seats, followed by new entrants KLM and Eurowings.

DeleteThey will likely enter Skopje but Sarajevo has better potential as it doesn't have a LCC base now and many interesting lines are unserved, catchment area is similar with slightly better economy in Sarajevo.
DeleteThey will go where they get the most money. In my oppion SJJ makes more sense since, like you say, they have less competition. But I think they will have much better cooperation with authorities in Skopje. We will see.

Last anon, true the difference is still significant, but considering that just few years back SKP had double the number of passengers of Sarajevo, if it continues this trend Sarajevo might come very close to Skopje.
DeleteI agree with that but SKP is starting to grow from this year , 2024 and 2023 was miserable and one of the worst since 2019. And next year is expected to be even more succesfull. What I am happy for is even with Wizz cuts the airport growing!!

ReplyDeleteYes, almost all airlines are with exception to those that have discontinued service - British Airways, Luxair and airBaltic. Eurowings is an exception to this trend, with fewer seats than last year. Other than Wizz and Air Serbia, airlines with the most added seats in July incldue Lufthansa, China Southern Airlines (did not serve Belgrade last July), Nouvelair, Turkish Airlines and KLM.

ReplyDeleteThey’ve had aggressive growth in recent seasons and are growing their load factor and consolidating before launching another wave of expansion, especially with new long haul routes on the horizon.

DeleteJU has pretty good market share. Weren't some people complaining yesterday how it is 'barely' 50% (as if 50% is not enough somehow) but in the busiest month they have 53% share in their hub. That's pretty good.

DeleteFor example, they are barely growing in LCA this summer while Wizz Air just announced that they are increasing it to 8 weekly, a new record! Four flights will be operated by a BEG based plane while the other 4 by a LCA one.
They will have two flights on Mondays, leaving from BEG at 00.05 and 11.05.

Ryanair took a good portion of the market in SJJ so Wizz for sure will not open base there. And ryanair is not opening any base out of Europe for now , maybe in future... SJJ and SKP could be the ones
