NEWS FLASH

The process to select a concessionaire for Podgorica and Tivat airports has been thrown into disarray following the resignation of three members of the tender commission. The departing members, including the Prime Minister’s advisor and two representatives from the Ministry of Finance, cited concerns over possible irregularities, undue influence on certain commission members and unequal treatment of the bidders. The commission had been expected to select the future operator by next Monday. Final bids have been submitted by South Korea’s Incheon International Airport Corporation and Luxembourg-based Corporación America Airports, which manages several airports across South America. The process has been further complicated by comments from Serbia’s Finance Minister, Siniša Mali, who earlier this week said that Serbia is interested in participating in the concession and is prepared to invest twice the amount proposed by the two current finalists. Furthermore, according to unconfirmed media reports, external consultant International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is part of the World Bank, believes that the principles of the tender process are being seriously violated and is reportedly withdrawing from the entire procedure.

Pretty naive to state that such things happen only in the Balkans

Is it just me or is the timing of Mali's statement and the resignation of tender members which will probably result in the termination of the tender process a bit too convenient?

No, it's more to do with the Prime Minister being unhappy with the way the decision is going to swing while he wants to secure a win for the other (and my guess is for Incheon)

Both airports are shitty. The Podgorica one is not too old, but already a long time ago outdated. Long rows for the pass en sec check, long rows for the boarding process, not enough sit places, additional services like lounge rooms suck, the toilets as well, the roof is not cleaned regularly, the big rode construction inside as well. The walls between the before and after sec check area are too low, and that's why they put 10+ years ago nets inbetween, etc. etc.
It outgrew it's capacity a long time ago and all other measures too. I like even more the old one which is nearby.
They should build a completely new airport if you ask me.
Why should someone like to take over this airports? For me it looks more a headache causing thing than a profit one.
