Niš Constantine the Great Airport has secured a new passenger service for 2026, to be operated by Wizz Air, along with its first-ever cargo route to China. Additionally, this week marked the resumption of Swiss flights between Zurich and Niš after a four-year hiatus. The airport has also reversed its downward trend in passenger numbers.
Wizz Air will introduce a new two weekly service between Dortmund and Niš from January 5 with the 239-seat Airbus A321neo. It will complement the carrier’s existing flights from Basel and Memmingen to the southeast Serbian city, with further flight details available here. Tickets are now available for purchase through the airline's website. The low cost airline previously operated flights between Dortmund and Niš from August 2016 until January 2024. During its last full year of operations on the route, in 2023, the carrier handled 34.663 passengers between the two cities, for an average annual cabin load factor of 89%.
The operator of Niš Airport, Airports of Serbia, has signed an agreement with the Xinjiang Airport Group to establish a regular cargo service between Urumqi and Niš. The route, which launched this week, is operated by Uzbekistan-based My Freighter using a Boeing 767-300F aircraft. The full routing includes Urumqi - Navoiy (Uzbekistan) - Niš - Leipzig - Tashkent. It will operate alongside a scheduled cargo service established earlier this year between Urumqi and Belgrade. The new cargo flights to Niš will transport around fifty tons of goods from China, which will be distributed across Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The launch comes amid a surge in cargo traffic between Serbia and China, driven by the recently implemented free trade agreement between the two countries.
Commenting on the new cargo service, the CEO of operator Airports of Serbia, Mihajlo Zdravković, said, “The joint message from Urumqi and Niš is that both sides recognise the strong potential for cooperation in the field of cargo transport, as well as opportunities to expand existing routes. These two airports will serve as gateways for their respective regions, playing a vital role in regional connectivity and the development of logistics”. Mr Zdravković added, “This partnership will also provide an opportunity for both airports to grow through collaboration and the introduction of innovative cargo standards. It is particularly significant for us in terms of positioning Niš Airport more prominently and enhancing its competitiveness, as well as exploring potential joint projects that have been under discussion”.
Earlier this week, Swiss resumed flights between Zurich and Niš, operating a limited seasonal service with two weekly rotations until August 21. Meanwhile, after more than a year and a half of declining passenger numbers, primarily due to a sharp reduction in Wizz Air flights caused by engine inspections, the airport returned to growth in June, recording a 16% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic.
Wow very nice to see
ReplyDeleteBravo za INI, sve pohvale! Congratulations 🎉🍾🎈
DeleteFinally some positive developments
ReplyDeleteGood to see this INI have great potential for cargo flights. New pax routes also are good.
ReplyDeleteThis year My Freighter is crazy, they already have over 20 planes since they started two years ago. They also have a low-cost airline Centrum Air, which is very likely to announce some flights to the Balkans, and it is growing like crazy. Also, a lot of these (passenger) planes fly abroad and take pilgrims to Mecca.
ReplyDeleteYes from Damascus and Grozny to Medina/Mecca.
DeleteTemu express delivery.

DeleteMost of My Freighter flights are with Temu, Shein. Silk way 2.0 2025.

DeleteJesus! Finally some good news coming from INI. I would love to see more new destinations as Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Copenhagen/Malmo, Amsterdam..
ReplyDeleteHappy about Wizz and Swiss, not about those cargo flights. The last thing we need is more cheap cr*p on the market, Serbia is already flooded with it.
ReplyDeleteYes, we should be importing Prada and Bently. The things some people write here...
DeleteEven Prada and Bently are made in China. First guy still live in mid 20th century
DeleteHaha. Is this guy for real?
Deletelol @ delusional China haters
DeleteEverything is made in China today, including the most successful consumer product in history - the iPhone
@ 10:21 Another history guy? At least 95% of all car parts are made in China. Especially most advanced, like computers, electronics, cameras or displays. Wake up, dude!
DeleteWrong, Serbia will distribute this goods to rest of western balkans. Serbian people and gov will get jobs and taxes while citizens from rest of Western Balkans will pay for it. All of the load is taken by serbian Transfera company which redistributes it
DeleteOh no but I thought Belgrade did not allow for Niш to develop! Like I wrote countless times before, it's not BEG or the government limiting growth, it's the low purchasing power.
ReplyDeleteNo, Herr Expert explained clearly that INI is being suffocated by BEG
DeleteAh yes, he always has something smart to say about Serbian ariports, especially KVO
DeleteGood to see Dortmund back in the network. Hope to see more Wizz routes soon.
ReplyDeleteHope this signals more growth ahead for INI.
DeleteSo happy to see Swiss flying to Niš again! I used to take this route all the time to visit family. Hope it becomes year-round if demand proves strong.
ReplyDeleteThe airport is finally rebounding
ReplyDeleteAbout time
DeleteFifty tons of cargo from China weekly? That’s huge for a regional airport.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought there would be cargo flights between Urumqi and Nis :D
DeleteKVO would be even better for these cargo flights considering its location. But unfortunately can't handle that type of aircraft.

DeleteHow is KVO better, if there are cargo flights to BEG already?
DeleteI find it interesting that Swiss does not fly to cities like Podgorica and Zagreb but flies to Nis... What's the logic?
ReplyDeleteDemand.
DeleteCroatia flies DOUBLE DAILY from Zagreb...
DeleteSo? JU flies triple daily from BEG but you also have triple daily Swiss flights
DeleteOU flies with Dash.
DeleteLots of gastarbeiter traffic.
DeleteDoes anyone know what's next in line for INI?
ReplyDeleteI'd say Turkish or Pegasus but it's up to Bilateral.
DeleteTurkish cannot fly IST-INI because JU has exclusive rights. However, AJet can fly SAW-INI, ESB-INI or ADB-INI, but it is up to bilateral agreement.

DeleteGood news for INI!
ReplyDeleteHopefully some good news will come for KVO.
