Kraljevo’s Morava Airport welcomed its first jet-engine commercial aircraft this week. A Jordan Aviation Boeing 737-300 landed on Monday on a charter flight from Amman, carrying members of Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ula basketball club who are training at the nearby Zlatibor Mountain. Morava Airport does not usually handle aircraft of this type. Its 2.265-meter runway can accommodate narrow-body jets such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, but with significant limitations. While landings pose fewer issues, takeoffs at maximum weight are restricted, requiring reduced fuel or passenger loads. Although the government has committed to extending and expanding the runway, no progress has been made so far.
Kraljevo Airport, which is served by the ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft on its revenue flights, handled 8.653 passengers during the January - July period, representing an increase of 23.3% on last year.
Well done, Morava. Also - very pretty pics!
ReplyDeleteWell I think Morava Airport will be door to Serbian Winter Hollyday centers , like Zlatibor , Golija and Kopaonik! What could open several abilitys to create new growings for this Airport!
DeleteWe‘ll see what futur bring!
Congratulations Morava!
ReplyDeleteBtw, that plane is 37 years old.
I wonder how it will refuel. Quick hop to BEG or INI?
ReplyDeleteIt went from kraljevo to Prague. Maybe they didn't need extra fuel especially with the take off restrictions at KVO?
DeleteLength of KVO runway is not a problem as there is many airports with even shorter runways that operate this kind of planes with no problem like for instance Luton in the UK.
Delete1) The runway stength i.e weight bearing capacity is insufficient to support regular A320/B737 operations. The runway was made for light military aircraft.
Delete2) The width on the runway is just on the verge of being acceptable which is problematic
@14.18 That is exactly what I said, length of runway is no problem for an empty plane to take off regardless of how much fuel is tanked on but other factors are involved.
DeleteWell, the fuel capacity on some more recent 737 models exceeds 25 tons, I somehow believe it could very well take off - not being overweight - even with all seats occupied, if it was to carry, say, 7-8 tons of fuel. It is only that I am not sure wheather that`d be enough for a 1,5 hour flight, let alone 2 hrs.
DeleteReally great news!
ReplyDeleteBtw, does this mean that landing and take offs of lets say E170 is possible with no pax limitations?
Yes. LOT can fly to Kraljevo.
DeleteI think there are no refuelling facilities for commercial planes at Kraljevo Airport.
DeleteThat runway is over 2000m why cant planes take off without restrictions?

So, some 17k pax in 2025...
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful pics
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when current PSO Agreement with JU expires?
ReplyDeleteI think addition of VIE and MXP would be possible to expect as an additions as year-round services...
31 December 2027.
DeleteOnce when Moravski koridor is finished, this will be a closest airport for KV, CA, KG, NP, UE, Zlatibor and KS
DeleteA lot of potential for future growth
Well it is the closest airport to all these towns as we speak. But once Moravski is finished, it will be close to Belgrade, too, hence a good LCC alternative to Tesla, once new runway is built.
DeleteBelgrade South!
DeleteRyan for instance could market it like that, yes.
DeleteJust to add that, if they once connect Šabac to Miloš Veliki motorway with a 50 km or so long missing section, even Novi sad becomes very close through new tunnels in Fruška Gora...
DeleteNow that's a stretch.
DeleteMorava was projected for civil aviation before Milos Veliki highway was planned and built. Now it pretty pointless, except for cargo maybe. Still fuel depot is missing
DeleteSorry, but I don`t get how an airport in a tricity area with some 500.000 people is pointless.
DeleteI guess it was no more than 40-50 pax in the plane and a flight from Amman burnt some fuel as well. But it is a 733 after all and a runaway has limitations. Would be great if someone from the industry calculate was it within the limits.
ReplyDeleteWell it spent a lot of fuel on such a long flight. It landed as if it had some hundred of pax less than at take off.
DeleteIt could land, but how will it get off the ground back home overnight with all that fuel. 🙂
ReplyDeleteThe plane left for Prague. There are no refuelling capabilities in Kraljevo.
Delete*overweight
ReplyDeleteNice pictures ^^
