NEWS FLASH

Vueling inaugurated flights between Barcelona and Ljubljana over the weekend, marking its entry into the Slovenian market. The new service will be maintained twice per week, with a mix of Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft, although one rotation, on December 28, is scheduled with the A321. The inaugural service from Barcelona had a load factor of 85%. Jordi Pla Pintre, Director of Network Strategy & Long Term Planning at Vueling Airlines, said, “At Vueling, we are firmly committed to connecting Europe with Spain, and our new service between Ljubljana and Barcelona is a perfect example of that. It is the only nonstop link between the two cities, and we are proud to offer it. We are confident the new route will inspire residents of both Ljubljana and Barcelona to discover new cultures and enjoy easier travel between two vibrant and inspiring cities”. Managing Director of airport operator Fraport Slovenija, Babett Stapel, noted, “We are delighted to welcome Vueling as a new partner at Ljubljana Airport. The long-awaited connection to Barcelona brings more than just new travel options – it also creates an important opportunity to strengthen economic, tourism, and cultural ties between the two countries. We expect the route to be well received both by Slovenian travellers and by visitors from Spain”.

People really can't read these days. There is always one guy under every single article that's asking for stuff when it's clearly written.

From BCN 157 to BCN 155 passengers. Vueling had only 168 out of 180 available seats on sale for the flight.

What is the reason for a lower amount of seats on sale? Also, I was checking seat maps for each of the flight and BCN-LJU was mostly full, but LJU-BCN was only around 30% full judging by the occupied seats 2hrs before the flight. Does anyone know what could be the reason for this? Do Slovene people love to check in at the airport?

The seat covers are a smart PR move. I assume these covers are put in place weeks before the new flight introduction and then left in place for several more weeks.

I think some things are moving in right direction in LJU, there was and still is quite a preassure from Slovenian public. Good LF on leissure destination flights will probably show that there was a missed strategy with not giving a chance to this destinations. I am not going to enter in this waters with questioning why ...

I feel that the government's incentive programs have focused too much on inbound tourism markets and have somewhat neglected the interests of Slovenians in travel destinations. But with LPA and BCN, we now have two very good destinations in southern Europe. It would be nice if one or two more destinations were added. I'm thinking of Naples, Palermo, Lisbon, or perhaps Malaga or Alicante. Since mutual demand is an advantage, Lisbon would certainly have an edge here.

Correct, but also Greek islands are very popular in the summer. They would easily fill the planes with Tour operators. In peak summer season there are like 2 - 3 charters pw, from LJU only to RHO and HER. If you add all the people that fly out of neigbouring airports with FR, W6, U2 and V7 this would def. work.
