Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is planning to refurbish part of Terminal 1 with the addition of a new gate, while expansion works at Terminal 2 continue to progress. Serbia’s Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has issued location conditions to the airport for the reconstruction and adaptation of part of Terminal 1 to create a new international bus gate. The area slated for refurbishment is located on the ground floor of the A wing corridor section of the terminal building. Terminal 1 currently has two gates serving remote stands, A7a and A7b, with the planned works set to add a third exit, A7c. The project will be carried out within the airport’s existing footprint, with no structural expansion, and will involve reconfiguring interior space as well as adding a new exit on the apron-facing facade.
Meanwhile, work on Terminal 2’s expansion is progressing, with efforts focused on three new gates, which includes three airbridges and four additional aircraft stands. Together with the T1 and T2 upgrades, the airport will have 37 gates in total. New gates C15 to C18 are being added to the C wing, with C15-C17 featuring airbridges, while C18 will be a remote bus gate for Code C aircraft with a maximum 36-metre wingspan. The project also includes a Taxiway T extension linking C18 to the wider taxiway and de-icing system, new service roads, upgraded stormwater drainage, apron pavement works, external lighting with 22-metre LED masts, new power and control systems, as well as four travelators inside the terminal, split between departures and arrivals.
Landside, construction of Air Serbia’s new headquarters opposite the airport is progressing on schedule, with work now focused on installing glass panels on the building’s exterior. The structure will have a total gross area of 7.985 square metres and will match the height of the adjacent Aviation Museum. Completion is scheduled for May 15, 2027. The development will also feature landscaped green areas and an open-air car park in the north-western section of the site with 140 spaces, including six designated for persons with reduced mobility. A new ring road and access street are being built alongside the complex, providing a link to the future airport rail station currently under construction. At the same time, foundations have been laid for a planned airport hotel, also being developed by Air Serbia, while an additional business building within the complex is expected to follow at a later stage. Preparations are also underway for the overhaul and expansion of the Aviation Museum.

I hope they will eventually stay extending the A hall.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteGood, hope this time they et the necessary permits correctly.
ReplyDeleteForeign designs are now allowed when accompanied by a additional document.
DeleteAnd what happened with A4a and A4b bus gates?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean?
DeleteThey are being used as storage for the duty free.
DeleteA4A resigned and A4B is on sick leave.
DeleteSo they building new A7c while having gates used as storage?
Delete^ I doubt they are doing for the fun of it and if true there is probably a reason for it.
DeleteMoney needs to flow
DeleteYes I am sure they are building another gate to waste money. Especially this concessaionaire which is doing everything to save money.
DeleteBravo BEG 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸
ReplyDeleteThat JU HQ is getting built very quickly.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm really surprised too.
DeleteGoing well
DeleteYes, just don't forget that interior work takes longer than exterior work.
DeleteTrue but they still have a year before it's officially supposed to be open. Everything should be finished on time.
DeleteVery quickly probably means that later it will leak somewhere as happened with T2 extended "C| section. There is a few centuries old saying stating "sto je brzo to je kuso" .
Delete37 gates is impressive
ReplyDeleteIndeed
DeleteThe addition of more airbridges should improve the passenger experience, particularly compared to remote stand boarding.
ReplyDeleteAre remote stands even used today for anything but ATRs, which can't airbridge?
DeleteYes they are. Many planes are using them. I saw JU A319 and E195 on remote stands just the other day as well as Lufthansa A320. KLM and Austrian are also often on remote stands, especially the planes that arrive in the evening and stay until the morning.
DeleteT1 needs a full overhaul
ReplyDeleteAgree. But they would just make it look like the rest of the Vinci terminals. I prefer it this way.
DeleteT1 is protected as architectural heritage and can't be changed structurally. Also, I believe that mosaics in the interior are also protected, so the only possible change is some restauration and changes in the way the space inside is used.
DeleteIt will be interesting to see whether these upgrades are sufficient to meet projected traffic growth over the next few years.
ReplyDeleteThat and it will be worth seeing how these projects align with Air Serbia’s longer term growth plans.
DeleteThey should do something with the whole new C corridor. I came 10 days ago when it was raining. There were backets (kofe) placed all along the C concourse, every 10-15 meters, in different collours (blue, red, yellow), picking up the rain drops falling from the ceiling. People joked that it might be an artistic installation after all.
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm defending them or anything but I have seen this at many airports across Europe.
DeleteThen it's ok.
DeleteLike in Frankfurt even when not raining and when no works done.
DeleteStep in the right direction
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what will happen to the old control tower?
ReplyDeleteIt is up to SMATSA. It would be great if they turned it intoa restaurant or something like that.
DeleteCan someone tell me what is located in that building underneath the tower?
DeleteATS reporting office (ARO)
DeleteThanks
DeleteI wonder whether the airport is already planning beyond this expansion phase
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a whole master plan.
DeleteIs there anywhere we can see it?
DeleteI don't think Vinci has released it publically. But there is still a lot of things that are planned. From expansion to a new airport Hq building...

Why is Air Serbia investing so heavily in real estate around the airport?
ReplyDeleteZato što smo tako u mogućnosti
DeleteThe rail station will probably be the most transformative part of all this
ReplyDelete+1 most useful thing to be built at the airport in the last 30 years.
Delete@10:10 yes indeed useful especially as being 1/2 km away from the terminal building!
DeleteWhen will they open Museum?
ReplyDeleteThey are about to start construction work on it. It is supposed to be completed next May.
DeleteI doubt they can manage to finish it in a year.
DeleteI would doubt that too but then I see how quikcly they are building the JU HQ. So who knows.
DeleteThey really need to intergrate the museum somehow with the passenger experience. It is such a valuble asset.
Delete^ could not agree more
DeleteBut how can you do it? How can you connect it to the terminal?
DeleteSame hot corridor to train station
DeleteBut how many corridors would there be then? It would have to a be a very long one and go over roads.
DeleteYou could always build an underground connection. Of course it will never happen.
DeleteMuseum is very close to new train station. No extra corridor is needed
DeleteI meant connecting it somehow so transfer passengers can visit it.
DeleteAlso would be good to connect the future hotel with the terminal for transfers.
Delete^ no chance. If they really do extend the C concourse on the other side of the building there is no way even in theory to connect the hotel to the terminal, not that they would have done it either way since you would need a very long enclosed bridge going over parking and the road.
DeleteAs per Master plan of Vinci their next phase is adding air bridges on the opposite side of C8-18 so they basically double the capacity of C "terminal". And thats it from them. They do not plan to extend A gates any further.
ReplyDeleteThere is still so much space where they could expand. Looking at the first photo there is space between the Tehnika stand and the inserted runway to build a whole terminal. Obviously iy would require huge investments
Delete*it
DeleteIf thats true, that would have been amazing. The C concourse can easily double while maintaining the same amount of time needed to reach gates
DeleteCan you imagine the crowds along the C concourse if that happens...
DeleteWell they would widen the C corridor so it would not be an issue.
DeleteWhen is the replacement oft airbridges from 1978 planned (A7-A10)?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but what difference does it make? They work and not much has changed in air bridge design.
DeleteIt would be nice if the boarding bridges were unified across the terminals.
DeleteConsidering that they are named terminal 1 and 2, do they have two separate check in desks, two security screening etc? Or they are just used to denote the two concourses linked to one arrivals/departures processing center?
ReplyDeleteYes, they have two separate check in areas. They had two separate secury screening until a year and a half ago when they built the central processing buldings and centralised security schecks.
DeleteThey now use the former security check in T1 for staff security check I believe.
DeleteGood to hear. Keep up the expansion.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the expansion works progressing.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that unique opportunity was missed to add a 2nd runway when they resurfaces the existinf runway.
I agree. The whole project has been mediocre. But its fine
DeleteAs long as it remains fast to move through i'll be happy. Its never gonna win an award for design or the project as a whole. But it remains a nice enough place to pass through.
ReplyDeleteTime to build a completely new airport in Belgrade.
ReplyDeleteWhy?
DeleteDobanovci has been selected for new airport for Belgrade. But I doubt it will happen any time soon.
DeleteИскеширајте лову и почните. Покажите да је пројекат исплатив или не требате ако Ви финансирање.
DeleteI'm wonder what happened to the old split flap departure board which was upstairs in Terminal 2. They are extremely valuable these days and it would be a shame if it's been destroyed. It would make a great addition to the main Tesla hall if found and restored.
ReplyDeleteI wonder*
DeleteTrue dat.
DeleteTri posebno znacajna projekta su u toku gradnje. Na prvom mestu je gradnja Novog Hotela. Drugo po znacaju jeste dolazak voza na Terminal. Na trecem jeste Nova Direkcija Ar Srbije. Znacajno je i dodatak tri nova gejta. Potrebno je jos tri mosta. Verovatno nema vise mesta u tom pravcu?. Muzej Vazduhoplovstva ce biti dostojan sadrzaj. Dok stari kontrolni toranj izgleda neprihvatljivo za svu transformaciju. Kroz koju prolazi Aerodrom do EXPO 27.
Šta znači: Kroz koju prolazi Aerodrom do EXPO 27?
DeleteTerminal C se moze produziti jos dobrih 200 metara, ako bude potrebno. Ali onda nece moci da se dodaju prilazi sa druge strane kako pominju neki citaoci.
Deletewould be great if they'd reactivate old Terminal 1 passport gates, that are now used only by cabin crews and pilots.
ReplyDeleteis there a plan what will they do with old tower? it would be fantastic if they'd convert it to observation deck with caffe/restaurant.
They will definitely not reactivate T1 passport gates. The whole point of the T2 rework was to make all checks centralised.
DeleteIs there a VIP passport and security area ?
DeleteIf you mean for people flying on private flights, yes there is. There is a whole area underneath the C wing, with a lounge and security for them where they avoid mixing with other passengers.
DeleteIf you mean priority passport control and security for passengers on regular flights, yes there is a priority lane at the airport.
I was at the Airport on 25.5. Two out of three peoplemovers between C7 and C13 were not in function. The Airport was full at the time(around 16:30).
ReplyDeleteI posted this problem on other aviation forum and I got the answer that peoplemovers on Belgrade Airport are not reliable, as they are often out of order.
