Birds eye view of Belgrade Airport

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport recently recorded its highest number of aircraft movements in a single day, according to the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, Eurocontrol. On June 12, a total of 367 arriving and departing flights were handled, representing a 3.7% increase on the previous record set on May 25, 2025. Of these, 281 movements were scheduled commercial flights alone, excluding charter, cargo, business aviation and other non-scheduled operations, which also account for a significant share of traffic at the airport.

Excellent. It was probably a record day for passenger numbers too.

That's enough to use two runways simultaneously.

Shame about 2nd runway missed opporrunity.
All they needed to do is expropriate strip of land 10m wide, not even the entire length of the runway.

Well Belgrade airport will never be so large that two runways are needed for further growth. Look at what Gatwick can do. However i agree it was a missed opportunity to set out a development that allowed for two runways and sufficient space to start with a new terminal jn the 2040s.

It would have been great if they were able to handle it. I got through for a connection just today and in the afternoon there wasn't a single flight on time and my baggage hasn't arrived at the destination...

Have you maybe thought it has something to do with record European airspace congestion which is causing many flights to be delayed across Europe? No?

@21:52 Belgrade airport is not on the Top10 FlightRadar24 Europe airport disruption map today. You are lucky, it was much worse in ATH, AMS and FRA.

    Yes, I have.
So, out of curiosity I checked a couple of airports busier than Belgrade - which I know it doesn't mean anything, but all they performed way better.
Anyway, my impression is that they had some issues with ground operation today.

Welcome to travel in the 21st century in European summer. Happens everywhere. It does not mean, like you wrongly concluded, they can't handle the traffic. They might have had a bad day, although it does not seem to be anywhere near as some other airprots in Europe today.

And also, just as a sidenote, Belgrade Airport does not do any handling. All handling is outsourced.
