An Air Serbia ATR72 aircraft and a Air Montenegro E195 jet side by side at Belgrade Airport

Flights between Belgrade, Podgorica and Tivat have continued to generate the highest passenger volumes among routes within the former Yugoslav markets, according to data recently obtained by EX-YU Aviation News. Services between Belgrade and Podgorica, and Belgrade and Tivat, handled a combined total of 685.316 passengers in 2025, representing an increase of 6.6% on the previous year, or an additional 42.389 travellers.

Belgrade - Podgorica remained the busiest intra-ex-YU route, with Air Serbia and Air Montenegro jointly carrying 356.896 passengers, up 9.4% year-on-year. Meanwhile, Belgrade - Tivat handled 328.420 travellers, marking an improvement of 3.7%. Belgrade was Podgorica’s busiest route in 2025, ahead of Istanbul, which had 290.827 passengers, while it was also Tivat’s largest market, ahead of Tel Aviv with 201.531 travellers. In addition, two seasonal routes are operated between Serbia and Montenegro, linking Tivat with both Niš and Kraljevo.

Would it make sense for AirMontenegro and AirSerbia to establish some kind of a joint venture on the route? Split revenue in half, operate it bilaterally and that's it? What would be the downsides?

They could do a "bus" service that connects to either network, and pax don't have to go on two different sides to see all of the flights availabl for start. I also think that Air Serbia would be happy to offload those flights to 40 over the summer if the revenue was split

Offload? Are you serious? JU generates the bulk of these passengers and carries all transfer traffic. Montenegro is a cash cow for them. Why would they offload passengers, revenue and profits to Air Montenegro?

God no. Serbia or Air Serbia don't need this kind of parasitic cooperation. JU has nothing to gain from that. JU should try to introduce night flights to TGD once they allow it.

Absolutely not, the prices are not cheap at all right now. By creating a monopoly on the route it would be even higher

Oh yeah because Air Montenegro is pushing fares down. Lol

Fares can't be cheap because various taxes are €70 so that's what every passenger pays to the airport, government etc

I always wonder why routes between Belrade and Tivat/Podgorica are so popular? Were they also popular in YU-times?

As if it takes 'only' 35 minutes to fly to Montenegro. What about getting to the airport, arriving at least 1.5 hours before your departure time, potential delays especially in high season. Also, leaving the airport etc. So in reality it can take perhaps 4 hours to 'fly' from BEG to Montenegro.

@17:28, If there is a delay then its a total pain the neck. But then again if there is even the slightest of problem on some of the roads to Montenegro the drive can turn into a voyage of epic proportions.
