Low cost carrier easyJet will discontinue one of its two Skopje routes at the end of the 2026 summer season. The airline will terminate flights between Paris Orly Airport and Skopje after a year and a half of operations. easyJet will initially reduce frequencies on the route from two to one weekly flight from August 15, ahead of its final service on October 24. The carrier will continue to maintain operations between Geneva and Skopje, which were restored last November following a year-long hiatus. Services on this route will operate twice per week throughout the upcoming winter season, as well as during the 2027 summer season.
easyJet faced indirect competition on the route. Wizz Air maintains services between Skopje and Beauvais Airport, which is marketed as Paris despite being located nearly ninety kilometres from the city centre. In contrast, Paris Orly Airport is situated around twenty kilometres south of downtown Paris. Prior to easyJet’s entry into the market, Wizz Air handled 43.526 passengers on its Skopje - Beauvais service in 2024, achieving an average annual load factor of 87.6%. The airline is operating three weekly flights between the two airports during the current summer season and plans to maintain two weekly services over the coming winter. easyJet has a base at Paris Orly Airport and ranks as the airport’s third-largest carrier by available seat capacity this year, behind Transavia France and Vueling.
easyJet had previously said it is unfazed by Wizz Air’s presence on the Macedonian market. It noted, “easyJet is focused on its successful strategy to expand across Europe and operates in the best interests of the company and its customers ensuring the attractiveness of its network. This means the airline concentrates its efforts on maintaining and developing routes which prove popular with passengers. We consider competition only in regards of tactic opportunities that can be complementary to our strategy”. Skopje Airport had previously said one of its main goals is to secure nonstop connectivity to major European cities and large hubs.

That didn't last long
ReplyDeleteWizz is too strong
ReplyDeleteAnd the market too small
DeleteThe market is well covered by Wizz air and hardly someone can jump in and take over..
DeleteEasyJet playing musical chairs as per usual.
ReplyDeleteIt's called good business
DeleteWell it clearly doesnt make them enough money.
ReplyDeleteThat yes and Wizz air impact does the job
DeleteWas the route subsidised ?
ReplyDeleteYes but I don't think it will be eligible since they discontinued it. I think the condition is 3 years of service.
DeleteNo route is subsided only with 3 years of service
DeleteThe only Paris route that could work is CDG which would enable hub connections.
ReplyDeleteWell clearly it cannot as of yet.
DeleteFRA worked great with their connections
DeleteWasnt that cancelled?
DeleteYes, it's called sarcasm.
Deletecynicism more likely
DeleteSkopje as it started is turning into Tuzla, only Zwizzair can succeed, no one else...
ReplyDeleteOh really , comparing tuzla with skopje ?? Really buddy you serious ??
Deletegde si Kume unserious as ever
DeleteHahah,,,,go back a few posts on this site ..SKP has shown LARGEST INCREASE of ALL ex YU airports...and Macedonian as a market too...haters get hurt by the truth..yes..routes are dropping, but new ones are introduced...business as usual...
DeleteIs it ? LOT, LUFTHANSA and EASYYJET all downgraded the service so tell me where is your calculation.?
Deletecheck the montly capacity articles here
Delete@13:20 and?
DeleteSkopje with and without lufthansa is the same , there are options , there are connections , numbers are growing , of course there is always room for something better but with no lufthansa it is not end of the world ;)
DeletePlus there is always chance in future they come back
If you look at the departure board, it's all Wizz Air and a few Antalya charters. Then there's one or two flights from JU, OU, Austrian and Turkish. Everything else is Wizz
DeleteYep. So? Thats fine for small european capital of a small country. Nothing wong with that.
DeleteYep. So? Thats fine for small european capital of a small country. Nothing wong with that.
DeleteThis is now becoming concerning
ReplyDeleteeasyjet ending Paris ORY
Lufthansa eding Frankfurt
LOT shortening winter ops at SKP
Why? The airport remains well connected with wizzair. Better than at any time in its history.
DeleteA certain commentator here will tell you that it is public knoweldge that all these airlines are full on flights to Skopje and that Skopje is its best performing route in their network, it is just that other factors have resulted in this.
DeleteSkopje fan boys are vocal thats true.
DeleteSKP numbers are rising if you missed that
DeleteSo what? Its not a race?
DeleteSKP is performing very well check the numbers and the growth. There always will be things like this , aviation is just like this. But anyway SKP is growing massively and thats important. One year ago I said Easyjet will face Wizz air and it will be hard for them to sustain on the market and that happend , I am not surprised , hardly someone can compete with Wizz air in Macedonia
Delete@16:34 are the fanboy no.1?
DeleteWizz wins again. They already had an established customer base on the Paris route and probably made it difficult for easyJet to gain market share.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteI write this here 1 year ago exactly that nobody will survive Wizz air impact on this route!!
DeleteA shame. Geneva survives because of the large Macedonian/Albanian diaspora in Switzerland. Paris was always going to be a tougher sell with only two weekly flights.
ReplyDeleteWizz air controle this market and they are doing amazingly in Paris so for anyone else will be very hard to establish strong route from Macedonia. I said this one year ago , no one can beat Wizz air to Paris from Macedonia
DeleteWhich tells us all we need to know about how bloody weak the market is.
DeleteSkopje Airport says it wants links to major European cities but it has now lost two in a matter of 1 month.
ReplyDeleteWhere is that one person who kept on saying how the EU economy is doing really well? These news will get more common as the European economy struggles.
ReplyDeleteACI reported that in April 2026 European airports had 0.7% less passengers than in 04.2025.
Worst performers were...
Germany: -8.5%
Austria: -7.4%
Switzerland: -6.1%
UK: -2.1%
France: -0.9%
No wonder easyJet cut SKP and BEG from ORY.
Well its not like Macedonia has an economy to write home about.
DeleteExactly 11:11:, easyJet ending one route to Skopje is an excellent indicator that the EU is doomed forever.
DeleteSKP cut is just a symptom of the disease. Funny how you ignored the statistics from the end of me comment. Why is that? Come on, tell us.
DeleteIf the EU really was collapsing, you would not be spending your Sunday morning trying to prove it to anonymous commentators on an aviation blog.
DeleteI don't have to prove anything, statistics I listed above are proof enough. Could you please share some facts which disprove what I am writing? Looking forward to reading on how the European economy is thriving.
DeleteFYI didn't the EU GDP shrink in Q1?
Tragic
DeleteThe problem is that many passengers only look at price. If Beauvais is €20 cheaper, most people will choose it despite the additional transport costs into Paris.
ReplyDeletedont think they are cheaper
DeleteBus from BVA to the city center is roughly 15 to 18 eur , still cheaper than flying with easyjet :))))
Deleteidi proveri
DeletePerhaps Transavia would be a better fit for Skopje-Orly. They have a stronger position in the French leisure market and could potentially make the route work.
ReplyDeleteEasyjet is bigger than Transavia in Paris overall. This is a gastro route and clearly not a very profitable one from airports with restrictions or high operating costs.
DeleteI assure you, Skopje is not a leisure route from France.
DeleteIndeed.
DeleteNeither transavia or easyjet or ryanair will beat Wizz air in Macedonia , people need to understand that they are present here for more than 15 years , they establish themselve great , they are always cheaper option and everyone will choose them as option
Deletecant believe people prefere BVA over ORY but the reality is that most locals dont even know there are other airlines than Wizzair
ReplyDeleteAgree with this, there was no advertisement or campaign to let people know they were flying this route.
DeleteWhat sort of campaigns are people expecting? Are there campaigns for every route served out of SKP?
DeleteIts not about campaign , to BVA with Wizz air you can find tickets sometimes for 20 to 30 eur , while Easyjet holded always to 80 to 100 , Wizz air is more affordable than any other airline.
Delete@16.41 absolutely not true. flights in July SKP-ORY direction are between 30 and 60€
DeleteAbsolutely now before they leave , you should check them before , the other months not now ;)
DeleteSKP relies far too much on Wizz and the locals do not need or use legacy carriers to fly to hubs or onwards. OS covers what little need going west and TK east.
ReplyDeleteCheaper tickets , affordable prices for anyone and of course they will use Wizz aid than any other airline especially for intra Europe travelling
Deletethe only airline that can make an impact is Ryanair
ReplyDeleteAs long as Wizz air is present in Macedonia nobody can make any impact !!!
DeleteOh give it a rest
DeleteRest from what ?
DeleteObsessing over wizzair
DeleteGood, now announce TIA-CDG
ReplyDeleteCome on Transavia France, you can do it !
ReplyDeleteThey cant , they launch Amsterdam they had good numbers and demand, and they still decide to leave the airport .
DeleteI still ssying that as long Wizz air operates route hardly anyone can compete with them
Yeah, the demand was crazy big
DeleteIt was crazy big for short time they had great numbers, but the thing that TAV cannot hold any airline is another thing
DeleteTrue that but ,Skopje is well covered by Wizz air already and the demand left is very small portion which is not enough to be filled for Easyjet ...
ReplyDeleteEasyjet leaving SKP is not good for consumers. Passengers want more choice, more routes, more competition and frequencies. I am pretty sure Wizz used exact same words in the previous days and weeks.
ReplyDelete^ Leaving ORY-SKP
DeleteThis route could work summer seasonal but obviously not year round. TAV should start consider some of thid route like main hubs could be good only for summer months but not for winter
DeleteIf airlines dont think they can make money they wont come. Simple. Idemo dalje.
DeleteExactly. If an airline has to fly ORY-SKP-ORY as they don't have their base in SKP and can't make money compared to airline based in SKP, that's their problem.
DeleteSkopje and similar destinations are very very low yielding. Airlines cam make far more money on a leisure flight to spain or Italy.
DeleteThere are two Easyjets.
ReplyDeleteEasyjet and Easyjet Switzerland. The latter seems to have a better understanding of the peculiarities of the Ex-Yu market. Their flights from Geneva are much more succesfull.
I agree, but Geneva with Easyjet Swiss has more demand because of the gasto population. On other side Paris ORY is more p2p people with no option to connect to international flights, what SKP really needs is the option for connection. Airlines need to know that this routes will work seasonal but the winter demand will be low. Last thing Wizz air already covers great portion od the demand with 90% cabin LF, and thats tell everything. So for any airline will be very hard to compete with Wizz air which is clearly marked in the article.
DeleteTerrible and bad news for SKP
ReplyDeleteIf pax don't utilise these services airlines will simply leave
DeleteThats obvious no?
Delete
