Air Serbia operated the highest volume of flights within a 24-hour period in its history, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, Eurocontrol, said. Last Friday, July 3, the airline carried out 209 flights. It overtakes the previous peak, which was set on August 8, 2025, when the airline operated 205 flights. On July 3, the airline had the most flights from Belgrade to Tivat (a total of six), followed by three flights to Athens, Ljubljana, Podgorica, Vienna, Moscow, Zagreb and Zurich.

DeleteAs per FR24, BEG had total of 337 operations on July 3rd - 167 takeoffs, and 170 landings. Yesterday it had 336 movements.
DeleteLast Friday 158 landings of commercial flights. Absolute record, but I expect new one every next Friday in July
DeleteSo roughly averaging 8-9 flights every hour. That is very noteworthy for a small airline.

DeleteAir Serbia is definitively in the bracket of medium airline both in aircraft and in terms of destinations punches above its weight. I would regard 'large' to be an airline with over 100 aircraft so we'd be talking the size of ITA and TAP and above. Medium covers quite a wide range of companies from Icelandair and Virgin Atlantic through to Air Europa and Finnair.

Great to see Belgrade airport so busy and lively. Nice to See Air Serbia doing so well, its a welcome presence.
I don't think it punches above its weight, it punches quite ok but nothing out of the ordinary. Why? Because even though it has a decent fleet and a number of destinations, frequencies are still mostly low.
DeleteConsidering that Serbia is not an EU state (not likely to be given the government's actions) I would argue JU's network does punch above its weight. The City is well connected nowadays which is a positive thing. LOT - an airline with far more resources only fly to a few more destinations than JU so i would suggest it does punch above its weight even with lowish frequencies to some (but not all) routes.
DeleteIt is interesting that yesterday morning there were 31 departing flights between 06.00 and 07.00am in Belgrade or one plane departed in less than 2 minutes.

DeleteThis is amazing. It is very noticeable how much standards have increased in Serbia in the last 5 years. People seem to be flying way more then ever before.

ReplyDeleteRemind me if I’m wrong, but did they not build a new runway space deal years back, and the airport now has two functional parallel runways? I don’t think there exist any restrictions preventing the airport from using both, if the volume of traffic were to reach the levels that would slow down the traffic.
DeleteYou don’t build another runway for a peak hour. You build a new runway when you have a peak load for 10 hours a day, 200 days a year. In the meanwhile, you adjust your load waves with the airport slots.
ReplyDeleteRunway throughput in Belgrade is more than 50 operations per hour. Do your maths how long before the second independent runway is really needed.
