The Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, has said that plans for the construction of a railway link between Skopje city centre and the airport are advancing. “We are already working with the Agency for Spatial Planning and the relevant departments within the Ministry of Transport on preparing the urban planning and conceptual design for a railway connection to the airport. The idea is for the railway line to terminate directly in front of the existing terminal building”, Mr Nikoloski said.

That will be a welcome thing indeed.
ReplyDeleteSkopje will be the best airport in the region!
ReplyDeleteIf you say so :)
DeleteSure but far behind from OTP, SOF, BEG, ZAG, SKG. In which region, Macedonia’s region?
DeleteThey were exaggerating for dramatic effect. Dont feed the trolls
DeleteMany haters here but SKP just announced new security technology w/o the need to remove liquids, laptops.
DeleteWhy would you say that? Why Skopje fanboys believe their airport is the best. Its bizarre
DeleteWhat is bizarre is you being triggered by Skopje fanboys
DeleteIn a dream world trains would run from Skopje to Kumamovo via the airport every 30 mins. A dream i know but would be nice. Great to see discussion on improved rail acess. Macedonia has been quite active in trying to improve its railways and thats very welcome.
ReplyDeleteEvery 1 hour would already be great. I expect this to end up being once every 2 hours sadly...
DeleteEvery 2hours starts to be less useful. Also they would need to run services at 03:15 to connect with the busy morning flights. I will
DeleteBelieve this when i see it :) but i want to see it of course
I hope this will materialize in my life time and see trains running from Skopje to the Airport every 20-30min and from there across and outside of the country
ReplyDeleteEvery 20 minutes is very optomistic. But then again its good to be optomistic even if i cant visualise a world in which they would do this.
DeleteNo need for a train every 20-30 minutes, but it will be good to have trains every 90 minutes, at least with the current schedule, since most of the flights are in waves and there are extended periods of the day when there are no flights
DeleteHope this doesn't turn like Macedonia- Bulgaria railway that is ongoing project for the last 60 years 😀
ReplyDeletePublic train will be very beneficial for everyone as the current option is TAXI that is more expensive that the flight 😟 or one Bus line that is not convinient at all.
For now don't belive in anything, but in case it realy happens everyone will be happy 😀
Of course it will takes years and years to do. But sometimes once a project gets discussed it starts the ball rolling.
DeleteTaxi in Skopje is cheaper than just about any city SKP has direct flights with. Lots of things are problem in Macedonia but not this. Macedonia
ReplyDeleteYou make it sound like this is an unusual occurrence. I would certainly hope that taking a taxi to the centre is less expensive than an airline ticket put of Skopje.
DeleteNo they mean that Skopje has cheaper taxis than any place the airport is linked to hahah
DeleteOf course that Taxi in Amsterdam, Paris or Frankfurt is more expensive that taxi in Skopje, but the other cities have a train option that is way more cheaper than the current Taxi option at SKP.
Deleteall the european cities have Airport to CIty center 3-6.90 Eur, Or airport to other cities 10-30 eur. Even New York has a cheap public Transport JFK or LGA to Manhatan 2.50 $.
The only option at SKP is Taxi to city center 25 eur. Or 30-35 eur little further from the center. Or 100+ eur to the other cities.
So taking taxi from Kicevo or Strumica to SKP will cost you more that Wizz air flight to Germany or Italy 😀
Covinient reliable public tranaport 3-5 eur to Skopje and 20 eur to anhwhere is the solition and Taxi will be the option for the one that doesn-t want public transport. (Not that will ever happen) 😀
Belgrade has free buses to the city center and to Surcin/Jakovo/Obrenovac. For how long, remains to be seen
DeleteNot all European cities have prices
DeleteLike that. Veey few tbh. Why the airport cant organise a proper coach transfer is beyond me. It really wouldnt take much. Tirana has a coach to the center and Skopje should too.
@22:38 The fare from the airport to the city centre in Paris is €14. In NYC, it is $11.75 (the $2.50 you quote is just the subway which doesn't go anywhere near JFK)
DeleteIn London it varies but is above 10euros by tube from Heathrow. Only City is less.
Delete@15:12 The Tube from Heathrow into central London is £5.90 but it takes ages (over an hour) The train (Elizabeth line) is £14.60, and the Heathrow Express is £26.
DeleteThis would be a great addition. Every normal airport in the world is rail connected from city center to the airport. And in many cases it is cheaper and most convinient option for reaching destination. The traffic in Skopje is crazy, so this would be probably the best project ever related to Skopje airport.
ReplyDeleteA rail link would be good. However a proper cost benefit study should be undertaken because a proper coach link can be done for almost no money and as i understand that isnt the case atm. Im not a Macedonian tax payer but perhaps intra-urban rail might be of more economic benefit than this? Irrespective its great to see politicians talking about rail! Its vital.
DeleteSkopje is launching its city rail (gradski voz) this fall, with two more routes to follow next year. One of those new routes goes to Miladinovci, which is basically next to the airport, so maybe they will find a way to extend this line to the airport instead of waiting for the "speed train" to arrive, which they want to build from north to south via Skopje border.
ReplyDeleteYeah there will be little speedy about this.
DeleteAnnonimous 22 38....Do you realize how stupid is to compare taxi to train or bus? Have you forgotten that taxi takes you to your FINAL POINT ( luggage and all, up to 4 people, or more) while the train drops you to a single point which is still many km where you want to go. Yes, it would be great to have both. but you need numbers for that. Obviously you are a hater, but this is a very bad day for you. SKP just announced FIRST IN THE EX YU and wider Balkan region new security technology w/o the need to remove laptops, liquids. Same day as VIE.
ReplyDeleteI think you are mistaken about this mate, calm down. Just calm down and get a grip. You are the hater here because you think everyone is against your amazing airport. Its sad
