JAT B727 undergoing maintenance at JAT Tehnika facilities in Belgrade, 1978. JAT maintained its entire fleet independently at its own Technical Division. The Technical Division’s facilities were located at Belgrade Airport and comprised of two hangars for commercial aircraft, one for general aviation, engine workshops equipped with test benches, power-generation facilities and motor-generator units. The newest hangar, opened in late 1986, was one of the largest in Europe. JAT’s Technical Division carried out some 19 million work hours annually, more than 70.000 of which were devoted to inspections, overhauls and repairs for other airlines. In addition to maintaining JAT’s own fleet, it provided services to other carriers requiring all inspections on the DC-9 and Boeing 727, including C-checks on the DC-10, Boeing 737-300 and ATR 42, engine overhauls for the JT8D, auxiliary power unit overhauls for the Boeing 727, Boeing 737 and DC-9; and the overhaul of electrical, communications and navigation components, as well as landing gear. The Technical Division employed 1.630 people
