Air Serbia responds to union claims

Friday, June 5, 2015

Air Serbia has responded to claims made yesterday by the Independent Union of Serbian Pilots, which urged for an investigation into flight planning at the carrier, saying its pilots are overworked. In a statement, Air Serbia said, “Safety is the most important element of our daily business and our utmost priority. The operating hours for pilots, as well the time they spend on duty, are truly and without exception in line national legislation and European Union regulations. In that sense, they do not differ from any other airline”. The company adds, “Air Serbia rejects all insinuations made by the Independent Union of Serbian Pilots, which have emerged in some media. Among other things, these allegations bring into question the standard of passenger and employee safety enforced at Air Serbia without grounds, making these accusations very serious”. The Serbian carrier says it is audited by the Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate on a regular basis, which shows that the company is enforcing regulations and abiding by the law. The union says it has been unable to arrange talks with the airline’s management to discuss these issues in over a year.

Will be interesting to see what will become of Air Serbia (management) once SNS is no longer in power.

I assume they should finally start working properly without that brutal protectionism once the p***ylips and gravedigger become toppled. (i assume they can't lose elections)

The thing is that Kondic and JU are despised by all government institutions because of their arrogant behaviour. However, because Vucic and Mihajlovic need JU to survive no one can say/do anything.

But, the situation in Serbia is getting worse each day and their popularity will slip away just like DS' did a few years ago.

Well if there was any kind of PROPER opposition they should fall already the upcoming autumn, but all these who are in "opposition" arent much better than sns. The only difference is SNS "experts" graduated off Megatrend while opposition ones are Singidunum alumni or finished State faculties with help of micro earphones or hard currency bills in their indexes.

Other way around: ordinary people like new Air Serbia planes and service but despise most of the old, slow government institutions. Air Serbia is waiting for institutions to do their job, expand the airport, provide approvals etc. Air Serbia is not arrogant, they are just moving at the normal pace like any other normal "western" business, unlike institutions in Serbia that are asleep most of the time. Do you want Serbia to be more like the West or more like how it was in Tito's time?

Air Serbia is not as proactive as you want it to be. Just look at the debacle with the f/as, new website and online check in.
The airline announced to us that online check in should have been introduced in May... we are June now and still no word of it.

FA`s at JU have signed Collective bargaininng agreement today which reduced their salaries by over 200 EUR.

Thank you Mr Kondic! Reduce salaries of Etihad pilots who fly at JU for over 15.000 EUR. Even better, reduce your own salary or of your colleagues. Dont reduce it on us who are the backbone of the company.

By the way, for those who claim that we should protests or strike. I would be the first one to strike if I was not told by my superiors that if we ever raise our voice in the company our contracts will not be extended...Some salary is better than none.

    Shame on you!

Very sad...how much is total monthly income (salary in RSD+ daily allowances in $) of a JU c.senior and how much legs/hours/ does it include, so where did you lost over 200 Euro, in RSD or $?

Grass is always greener on the other side... or is it?

In case you missed it, this is how Qatar Airways manager publicly shamed flight attendant found intoxicated at apartment building:

Talk to FA's that actually worked for other airliners around the world and you will find out it's not that perfect out there.

So if that is the case and you are telling the truth, why did your union members agree to such a salary slash? I don't get it? Your salaries were about 650-700 Euros so now you are getting 450-500???

Something does not add up here....

      ^^^

Whether the grass is greener over the fence, QR is by far the worst of the ME3 in relations to how it treats its crew. EY overwork their crew, and EK are going through a huge problem of a massive amount of unhappy crew and problems with shortages due to large amounts of crew resigning.

Regarding JU cabin crew, their salary is great for Serbian standards. The internal relations with the crew is horrid, and the collective agreements dont appeal to people to stay. Crew dont seem to see a career in JU because the company doesnt give the crew an opportunity to do so.

JU really needs to bring in a system of paying crew by the hour rather than per day work. This i am sure will bring the flights around midnight to actually depart on time.

OMG enough with this Etihad Pilots flying for JU. My wife is an FA, and yes there were Etihad Pilots in JU last year while JUs own pilots were getting their type ratings, and after that i believe only 2 or 3 stayed. One Italian guy i met called Max, and im not sure about others. By now, there are no more etihad pilots...sigh.. enough already

Oh, what a lucky guy! Everybody's dream is a stewardess girl, although certainly you know yourself to cook lunch...Is your charming wife one of several irreplaceable and famous ex-Jat "nannies" in her late 50s or near 60, or a young newcomer?

''The internal relations with the crew is horrid, and the collective agreements dont appeal to people to stay. Crew dont seem to see a career in JU because the company doesnt give the crew an opportunity to do so.''

Can you elaborate? I am not familiar with JU but your observation is interesting. Why doesn't you offer them a career option?

well, the fact that the contracts are only valid for a year says enough. Building on a career say as a cabin crew takes years before reaching say purser position. Hypothetically I were in JU, what does that say about my job? Will I have it after the contract expires? Will it be renewed? Will I be offered the renewal? They could at least make it for 3 years, 5 years, it would make some sense of belonging. Also normal benefits like discounted travel is not really defined in JU like in other airlines and the process in getting said tickets is ridiculous. Its easier for other airline staff to travel discounted on JU rather than its own staff. Also possitive crew feedback is appreciated as much in JU as in ither airline companies. Also new positions are created, people transfered/upgraded, positioned is triled and then discontinued with staff being sent to any position available, usually a downgrade to what they had in the first place. Just to give a rough idea on what it looks like.
