EC approves Dubrovnik Airport funds

The European Commission yesterday approved 214.9 million euros for the upgrade of Dubrovnik Airport, which includes the construction of a new passenger terminal, storage facilities, access roads, a car park and the lengthening of the runway and taxiways. Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu, said, “I had the opportunity to see the expansion works at Dubrovnik Airport in May, and I believe it is a flagship project for ESI Funds investments in transport. It is great news for business, tourism and for everybody using the airport". The new passengers terminal, currently under construction, will stretch over 24.181 square metres and have the capacity to handle 3.5 million passengers per year, according to the project outline. Passenger processing and waiting times will be reduced and the terminal will meet the requirements of the Schengen border code. The airport plans to begin work on expanding its apron and taxiways later this year, while the overhaul of the runway is scheduled for next winter. The entire project, to be completed by 2019, is valued at 274 million euros, with yesterday's EU fund approval covering most of the costs,

    Just to remind all, total terminal area is 36600sqm, Terminal 1 is 15400sqm and extension is another 21200sqm, total design capacity is 5.5 million
