Ljubljana Airport figures continue to decline

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport welcomed 79.776 passengers in February, representing a decrease of 24.4% on last year. The number of aircraft movements fell 34.1% to 1.593. During the first two months of the year, Slovenia’s busiest airport handled 155.271 travellers, down 25.7%, while movements plummeted 32.2% to 3.339.

    Reading that LJU is the busiest airport in Slovenia is somewhat depressing. Are we really supposed to treat MBX and POW as anything more than airfields? Technically airports, but... let’s be real.

    Logical. Imagine that Croatia Airlines or Air Serbia would go bankrupt, it would be the same.

    In retrospect it was for the best that JP went down when it did. Otherwise it would have just collapsed now: their employees would have had no chance of finding a new job in the industry, and other airlines would not have considered LJU when re-starting normal-ish ops in a few months' time.
