Wizz Air has announced its first five destinations from Abu Dhabi, where it is in the process of establishing its own airline. The routes will connect the capital of the United Arab Emirates with Budapest and Bucharest from June 2020 and with Cluj-Napoca, Katowice and Sofia from September 2020, subject to aviation activities being resumed in the respective countries. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, which is 51%-owned by the Emirate, previously listed Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro as potential markets which could be served from the city. The carrier will focus on establishing routes from Abu Dhabi to markets in which it has existing, high growth operations, among which Skopje would fit the criteria. The Macedonian capital has limited services to the Gulf, with Flydubai handling 24.270 travellers between its hub and Skopje last year, while Qatar Airways carried 29.856 passengers to and from Doha.
The only missed route in ex-Yu is LJU. It has long been striving for some Gulf connections. Don't think W6 will succeed in BEG as EY already holds the front. Plus in summer they increase their frequencies anyway. As for SKP, don't think there is much demand for more Gulf connections as it already has QR. Maybe KVO could have been a choice with some extra subsidies.

DeleteAlso, WZZ would need to overnight a crew somewhere, as they don't have a base in LJU, further reducing the margins.
No, WIZZ doesn't need for crew to overnight. I know because when they operate flights from KTW to DWC, the same crew has been doing 2 sectors a day KTW-DWC-KTW

DeleteWell Wizz Air AUH has not been launched yet, it will soon. Once they do they can launch LJU flights with crew based in Abu Dhabi. All these flights are the same as those that operated into DWC.
Deletethese flights have not much to do with Wizz Air Abu Dhabi to be honest. Wizz only moved their existing flights from Dubai DWC to Abu Dhabi and selling them now as new

I disagree, there are still many routes they can launch from SKP: Bari, Lisbon, Porto, Warsaw,Ljubljana, Lyon...

Don't get how exactly, BUT... announced flights and routes will be operated from current bases! Since Wizz is EU carrier, they can't fly TZL/BEG/SKP-AUH flights. Wizz Abu Dhabi still doesn't posses an aircraft. Once the base is opened and flights from AUH base with AUH aircraft/crew - we can say if ex Yu is missing. So far - not really.

DeleteIt would have been impossible for W6 (an EU carrier) to just simply launch new routes between 2 non-EU airports.
