NEWS FLASH

Sarajevo Airport will play host to a night-time runway race next year. The Runway Night Run will take place after midnight and will involve a five-kilometre marathon down Sarajevo Airport’s runway. “We are delighted to be the hosts of such a unique sporting event and join numerous other airports around the world in its organisation. Keeping in mind that the logistics of the marathon are quite complex, we are happy to take this opportunity to promote the airport but also Sarajevo as a city and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a country”, Sarajevo Airport said. The exact date of the race is yet to be specified.

I'd rather they organize flights after midnight in stead of these silly races. SJJ needs to work 24 hours so that we can have better connectivity with the world. OS would be the first to have a 05.30 departure from SJJ but they can't.

The management gets their salary no matter what and are protected like arctic bears by the government. Why would they bother?

It's not that simple. SJJ is basically surrounded by urban settlements from all sides (Ilidža, Stup, Dobrinja, Lukavica, Butmir). I don't expect locals to support such an idea. Also, SJJ is not the only airport on the planet that closes its doors at night. Many super commercial and successful airports around the globe have no night flights. Night flights will not solve SJJ issues which are related to something else and not to its working hours.

Belgrade is also surrounded by the city but no one complains about it. Also many airports have curfews but they have ample choice of airlines and destinations, SJJ doesn't.

Not true people in Belgrade are complaining about noise pollution but no one is listening and no one cares. People mostly from Zemun and surrounding settlements are complaining about early morning departures from runway 12 that are turning tight left to the north right after takeoff.

So, you want to tell us that because of a handful of flights an airport should be open 24/7? And where is the interest for those flights? Where are the passengers? Where is the explanation for SJJ to work 24/7? Where are the numbers of pax/year?

Please look at the map again: Belgrade airport is not surrounded by urban settlements from all sides nor has significant collective housing units near by. And now, look at SJJ. 0-24 flights to and from SJJ will never get approval.

Funny to see how people can argue over non-sence. As if all day slots are occupied, there are q of 10s of Airlines demanding to operate 7/24 to SJJ but Airport resists to employ people for shift working (4 times more than pesent) and the issue is noise restriciton... Day dreaming...

It's not only a noise but also safety issue due terrain, and yet after 50+ years of airport existence, incompetence and lack of wilingness to resolve this by installing obstacle marking and proper procedures. Tuzla has not got help to aquire 180 m strip of forest for the last handful of poles approach lights, let alone this...
