Belgrade Airport opens solar plant

NEWS FLASH

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has put into operation a solar plant that will provide it with electricity obtained from renewable sources. The new solar plant will produce approximately 1.130.000 kWh of green electricity annually, which is comparable to the yearly consumption of about 430 households. As a result, the airport’s CO2 emissions will be decreased by 900 tons per year. The solar plant is located near the airport complex, on the road towards Surčin, next to the new Tesla car park, and consists of nearly 3.000 photovoltaic panels spread over an area of 15.900 square metres that convert sunlight into electric energy. This initiative is part of operator VINCI Airports’ global efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. “Through sustainable operations, Belgrade Airport aims to reach VINCI Airports’ goal of zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Since 2018, we have been implementing a number of environmental projects such as a natural gas heating plant, solid waste processing plant and wastewater treatment plant. We will continue to operate in a sustainable manner and contribute to a healthier environment”, Belgrade Airport’s General Manager, Francois Berisot, said. In November 2020, Belgrade Airport joined the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program (ACA), receiving Level 1 certification, while the process for Level 2 is in progress.

What is nice? What? The solar field is larger than the airport. What is nice about it? That solar panels take up land? That a desert is created underneath them?

It is nice. Have you noticed that climate has changed a bit in recent years? I know this website attracts avio enthusiasts but for god sake environment is way more important than the bloody airports that are one of the biggest polluters in the world. Appreciate the initiative but they need to do more for sure!

Well if you read the article you will see what else they are doing.

The climate is always changing. Always has, always will. Humans or no humans. We do need to treat the Earth better, although I don’t personally believe this is what is fuelling this “green agenda”.

Overlooking the bitter compete form members of minor local political parties and envious neighbours, this is a step in the right direction.

Now, why there are always dogs barking whenever something positive passes by here, that’s more of a question for psychologists. For some reason, auto-chauvinistic conspiracy theorists have always been the loudest mouths in this county.

CO2 is NOT a toxic or otherwise harmful gas... It is the cornerstone of life.
Do you know how much of it there is in the atmosphere??? Of course you do not.

I hope they expand the solar panels to that huge parking lot! It'll create shade/protection for long term parkers at the same time generating electricity. Tesla and electricity go together!

I have never seen a group of more negative and spoiled people than those commenting here. You are unhappy with everything. Nothing can please you. Airport builds something new - not good for you. Air Serbia announces new routes including long haul - not good for you. Seriously. Negative comments about anything and everything.

I wonder why they didn't put panels on top of parking lot? Too expensive, issue with maintenance?

The enclosed car park is not owned by the airport so they can't put panels there.

That's what I am wandering as well. Anyone has some insight? Or some technician who can explain why they opened to split power plant and parking?

I told you just above. Read. Parking is not owned by them and the area the car park roof provides is not even close to the amount they built.

Nova.rs says „Parking servis“ ovde nije nadležan, već je to prepušteno Aerodromu „Nikola Tesla“. Price list for P11 parking lot only has Belgrade Airport and Vinci names and logos. Parking P11 was created as part of the concession. Evenrything points to Belgrade Airport/Vinci, not JP Parking Beograd. Can you show some links where JP Parking Beograd is the owner of P11?

You are completely mixing up parking lots. P11 is not enclosed parking it is the one built by VINCI. And like you were told the enclosed parking isn't even half the space used for the solar farm. And once again why on earth should they build it on a parking lot. Haters gonna hate.

    8. Anonymous17:11

Solar panels should have been installed above P11 parking spots, not on the land next to P11. That would have been more expensive, but would give cars parked at P11 some protection from sun and rain. Question is why it wasn't constructed that way?

    9. Anonymous17:18

Who cares? It's land that belongs to them through the concession. They can do what they want and build where they want.

It's that point where you have to find something to crticize, even though you have no clue how solar farms work, whather it can be built on a structure from the 1960s, the size of the farm and the parking and so on. But you gotta spit at anything to satisfy your daily unhappiness.

Where do you live??? We are talking about very fertile land. Look at the picture! Left and right are fields. Wheat, sunflower etc. is valued as „gold“ at the moment. Therefore I don’t think it‘s stupid to build the solar panels on roofs!!! Go to Germany, Netherlands and expand your knowledge!

I was going to make a joke that they should have built wind turbines next to the runway instead, but when I see all the bitter, negative comments, I worry that it wouldn't be understood as a joke.
