Ryanair passengers bound for Zagreb get locked in corridor

Several Ryanair passengers missed their flight on Monday after they were locked in a windowless airport corridor with no way out, British media report. The flight from London Stansted to Zagreb, departed without 23 passengers after both sides of an airport walkway were locked, trapping the travellers inside. A spokesperson for Ryanair said that "human error" had led to the passengers being unable to "exit the pre-boarding area doors" and "regrettably" missing the flight. Devina Raval, one of the travellers trapped in the corridor, said she felt like she was "being held hostage". “People were banging on the walls calling for help. There were kids crying and the whole place became really claustrophobic. I dread to think what would have happened if someone had a heart attack”, Ms Raval said. After around half an hour, one of the passengers pulled the fire alarm, alerting a member of staff who asked them what they were doing in the corridor. "At that point, I was just shocked that they hadn't realised we were there. We were told the plane had left without us", Ms Raval added. Passengers were sent to a nearby hotel for the night and put on the airline’s flight to Zagreb the following morning. In a statement, Ryanair said, “Due to a human error by handling staff at London Stansted Airport, a small number of passengers could not exit the pre-boarding area doors and regrettably missed their flight to Zagreb. The error was soon realised, however, the flight had already departed. Ryanair provided affected passengers with overnight accommodation and moved them onto the next available flight”.

    2. How in the hell Ryanair didn't notice 23 people missing on the airplane? Isn't that a huge security risk??

      You have no-shows all the time (especially FR). It's not a legacy carrier who (usually) waits for transfer passengers.

      First is highly trained and motivated staff.

      Second is highly trained and motivated staff plus the need to operate on a tighter schedule then a city bus.

      Upon explaining their situation, the passengers were shocked to learn that not only did no airline or airport staff realize they had been trapped in the corridor, but their Zagreb-bound flight had already departed from London Stansted Airport. With their flight and luggage already en route to Zagreb, the 23 passengers were essentially abandoned in London.

      Well, I've flew recently with FR, LO, AF, LH and FR. And LH was the worst, by far. So far, I've been pleasantly surprised by AF.

      Been flying with FR since 2004 and had ZERO issues. Just came back from Lanzarote with them and paid 40€ RT from Málaga. Reliable and punctual airline and given that it has more than 500 planes, the number of complaints is just minimal.

    11. Only the desperate write nonsense. LCC tickets sometimes cost more than legacy tickets. Quality of service today is almost identical on LCC and legacy. LCC, as a rule, have newer fleets, and better on time performance than legacies. Only people with serious complexes and not that high IQ can write about "only eating caviar and drinking champagne", or being able to afford legacy and calling LCC a bus. That much from me for today.

      Oh rijeka I am well aware how you “know” aviation.. like how you push triangle routes and other things that haven’t been done in modern aviation since the 20th century.

      Ryanair is an absolute cancer of an airline. Who cares if the planes are new if the seats are grossly uncomfortable, packed together and your fellow passengers are typically drunk European tourists.. no thanks. I put my money where my mouth is. Maybe you will too when you come upon some.

      @19:36 so I guess you prefer LH over FR? You know, that disgusting German airline that cancels flights at a moment's notice, gives you a crappy bottle of water and a chocolate for a 200+ EUR ticket and is willing to sell you a connection flight with less than an hour of transfer time in FRA? And let us not forget their rubbish on time performance.

    Ryanair are a pile of 💩. As for Stansted Airport, they are owned by Manchester Airport Group whom are a bunch of incompetent nonces. Stansted and Gatwick Airports both have gone downhill since MAG took control of them.

    Here's a thought, the seats were filled up in the aircraft. They then decided to just close the doors on the people who were stuck in the walkway. The plan was not to let the people out until aircraft departed. This way an excuse could be found. Yes human error. I wonder what other errors are occurring that the public doesn't know about.
