NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia expects to end the year by handling 4.4 million passengers. The figure marks its busiest since relaunching under its new brand in 2013 and just short of the record achieved by its predecessor JAT Yugoslav Airlines in 1987, which amounted to 4.53 million travellers. Speaking at the CAPA Airlines Leader Summit, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “At the moment we believe we will be very close to our historical record, but we will not surpass it. I believe we will be at around 4.4 million. The historical record was 4.5 million in 1987 but at the time the airline was serving the whole of Yugoslavia, which was a market of over 24 million people. I believe that next year for sure we will surpass this figure”. Air Serbia handled its four-millionth passenger of the year on November 15, almost a month ahead of 2023 when the figure was reached on December 13.

That's a 5% increase compared to last year.
It could have been much better if it wasn't for the Marathon accident.

What have winter cuts and low utilisation of ATRs and A330s to do with Marathon accident please?

@12:27, both can (and have) impacted their numbers, they don't have to be related...

@12:27 you don't realize that for almost 10 months of the year JU would have Marathon operating flights with an extra 4-5 Ejets?

The point is, the Marathon accident is not the only reason for slower growth.

You can not choose worse moment for wet lease partner change then in the beginning of the year as it happened to JU and still they managed to have growth. Bravo JU!

I think it will go way up 4,5 mil. In one and a half month it had to be more than 500k. Especially since Christmas/New year season is coming

Last December and half of November JU had around 470.000 passengers.

Knowing that they made some cuts it is not to be expected they will have more but less passengers.

So it is realistically to say that they will have around 450.000 passengers in remaining 45 days of this year coming 4,45 million for this year.

JU increased every month in this year due to higher LF. So we can expect the same in last one and a half months

No, in the last 2 months of 2024 JU had less seats available than in November and December 2023.

I think capacity for the month and a half is about 600k, so LF needs to be more than 90% to be neer the record number. That means 4.4M is realistic expectation, exept some surprise appears.

I love this point "The historical record was 4.5 million in 1987 but at the time the airline was serving the whole of Yugoslavia, which was a market of over 24 million people. I believe that next year for sure we will surpass this figure", everyone still living in the shade of Yugoslavia. I'm sorry, but in 1987 there was around 1 billion of passengers annually, now it is what 7/8? JAT was among top 8 airlines in Europe. Long way to get there if you want to compare with JAT from 40 years ago. If you don't want to, great result!
