Ljubljana Airport has welcomed several new routes and airlines this year, including Eurowings and KLM, with Air Albania set to join shortly. This will be followed by the launch of flights to Las Palmas by airBaltic in October and to Manchester by easyJet in November. The CEO and Managing Director of airport operator Fraport Slovenija, Babett Stapel, noted that two additional new routes are currently awaiting final confirmation. While she did not disclose specific details, one of the routes is expected to be Barcelona, operated by Vueling, launching this winter season, while the second is planned for the summer of 2026.

In an editorial, Ms Stapel said, “The Slovenian government as well as Fraport Slovenija continue to successfully implement tailored financial incentives to motivate airlines to start or enhance operations at Ljubljana Airport. These incentives, among others, have effectively reduced the financial risks for carriers establishing new routes. It is important to note, however, that these measures would have been insufficient without the presence of substantial untapped demand for travel in the market. This strategic initiative has led to the addition of more than eleven new destinations since 2023, most of which have achieved impressive load factors. Among the new routes for 2025 are Dusseldorf, Tirana, Las Palmas, and Manchester, with two more awaiting formal confirmation, one for the 2025/2026 winter schedule and another for the 2026 summer schedule. By 2025, Ljubljana Airport will have expanded its footprint across Europe and beyond to thirty destinations with a portfolio of 26 airlines”.

According to the CEO, Ljubljana Airport is set to offer its largest route network to date in 2026, surpassing the number of destinations served in 2019, when Adria Airways was still operating. “By 2026, the number of destinations served is projected to not only surpass the 2019 destinations but also reach an all-time record high for Slovenia, an incredible achievement that reflects our long-anticipated growth and expansion efforts”, Ms Stapel said. She added, “Early indicators point to Ljubljana Airport making substantial progress toward full recovery, both in operations and traffic performance, by 2026, highlighting its resilience and long-term growth trajectory”.

There is progress for sure, but FRAPORT is the best in PR, while they are still underperforming in the core business. Ms Stapel is using the only indicator which is in their favor while in all other areas (frequencies, schedule, overall connectivity, passenger number compared to competition) they are not successful at all.
