Skopje Airport readies for runway overhaul

NEWS FLASH

Skopje Airport will commence the overhaul of its runway next Monday, March 28, with work set to run for fifty days until May 16. During this time, the airport will be closed to commercial traffic between 09.00 and 17.00 each day. “The overhaul of the runway means that we will practically renovate the upper layer of the asphalt and, as a result, there will be construction work on the runway. Each day, in the noted hours and time period, we will rehabilitate one part of the total length of the runway, in order for the airport to remain operational, i.e., so we can normally handle flights during the remainder of the day, from 17:00 until 9:00. I would like to emphasise the following - Skopje Airport will not be closed during the overhaul of the runway. The airport will be open to passengers 24/7”, the General Manager of airport operator TAV Macedonia, Metin Batak, said. He added, “I would like to thank airlines and all government stakeholders for their close collaboration and planning in order to keep disruptions to a minimum. We are continuously working together with them to establish Skopje International Airport as the best in the region in terms of service quality. These investments contribute to the long-term development of the airport and Macedonian air traffic”. Skopje Airport’s runway is 2.950 meters long and 45 meters wide. The last major work on the runway took place in 1996, during which the airport was closed for two and a half months, with all traffic shifted to Ohrid.

I do not understand why the work is not taking place over night, instead they do it during the busy part of the day?

    3. It's because domestic companies have only 9-5 work mode. No one really does shifts or overtime. The Dolce Vita you know.
