Vueling boosts Ljubljana capacity

Low cost carrier Vueling has upgauged capacity on select dates for its upcoming new service between Barcelona and Ljubljana, set to launch on November 16. Although flights are primarily set to be operated by the 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft, the carrier has scheduled the 220-seat A321 and the 236-seat A321neo on select dates in December, as well as January of next year, mostly around the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Barcelona is one of Ljubljana’s busiest unserved routes. This coming winter, the Slovenian capital will also boast flights to Las Palmas in Spain.

    I think this shows to the other carriers that even if the indirect traffic doesn't show it, there are a lot of untapped routes that would be viable. I'm sure that LasPalmas traffic statistics wouldn't let you know that there is enough pax to open a route...now the tickets are selling for 700+€

      yes because we fly directly from other airports ... Barcelona was one example ... I'm sure most EXYU people cant imagine how much we fly from other airports and how common is to think first to check other cities and after Ljubljana ...

      I've flown about 35 times this year, I'm from Ljubljana, flown 10-15 times from LJU, while everything else was done from either ZAG or VIE. That tells you all

      LJU is only useful for Asia connections because TK does a super job with 1 hour evening connections at IST, intra eu flights are always better from Zagreb

      well could be both. and Zagreb is not the main one. Venice (both airports ) and Trieste has probably the biggest share. I would say 50% of Slovenians flying outside of Slovenia pick those airports.

      I'm flying through Zagreb when it's suitable for me, for example I need to be in London at 10, means that I can just use Zagreb morning dep, and come back on British in the late evening. One day trips from Ljubljana are nowdays impossible bar Frankfurt.

      @12:02 Every time i was flying either from Trieste or Venice, there were more than 20 other fellow Slovenians on the same flight. Also a lot of turist agencies fly from Venice.

      It seems like a lot of business passengers don’t use Ljubljana. Well, I do. When I fly for my private business, I never use same-day flights (early morning to late evening). My working day is simply much more efficient after a good night’s sleep at the place where I need to be for business, so I don’t even consider it. Ljubljana is not extremely well connected, but it’s not too bad either, and it offers a fairly diverse range of airlines, which at least ensures reasonably good connections. When it comes to tourist travel, however, Ljubljana has much weaker connections, largely because the Slovenian market is used to charter flights. In many other countries, by contrast, tour operators cooperate with low-cost carriers, which makes travel possible even for those who are not interested in package deals. In this context, Vueling’s new connection is extremely valuable.

      Highly likely to keep the route in the summer with increased frequencies. Just look at Iberia in Zagreb. Don't see why Vueling in Ljubljana couldn't have the same success

      Iberia should add more flights. Before covid they planned to fly 4 weekly, also with A321 on some days.

      I think even 2x weekly for the whole summer would be a nice addition. They increased capacity from CRJ to A320 this year, so logical upgrade is the frequency

      This route will most probalby stay and have a big potential to increase frequency as Barcelona is very popular city in Slovenia. We are using Venice as deparute airport now.

      Greek island airports have very few international flights in winter!
      It has to do with demand, not with the airport operator.
