NEWS FLASH

Ljubljana Airport’s new terminal building, which was officially opened two weeks ago, has today welcomed its first passengers. The first flight to be handled within the new facility was Lufthansa’s morning service to Frankfurt. “The terminal is larger, gives passengers more space and freedom when checking in. We also have four times the space for security and passport control. All the technology being used is new. Passenger comfort is also important. We have a new business lounge, new commercial areas and a new departure hall with much more space than before”, the airport’s General Manager, Zmago Skobir, said. Ljubljana Airport’s new facility features 10.000 square meters for flexible operations and increased services. Its terminal capacity has now doubled to serve more than 1.200 passengers per hour. Along with more space and comfort, the terminal features a greater choice of shops, restaurants and other amenities - with over 1.200 square meters initially available for retailing. The new terminal boasts a new jetbridge, fourteen check-in desks, as well as a special counter for bulky baggage, up to five security lanes, two baggage carousels with enough space for a third should it be required in the future, a new luggage sorting facility, large duty free shop, as well as a new premium lounge with a balcony overlooking the apron and runway. It also has four new restaurants and two stores selling Slovenian products. The facility is connected to the existing 13.000 square metre terminal, which will be reorganised and partially used by low cost carriers.

So many check in desks, so little passengers but still a mini que...

Capacity for 1.200 passengers per hour ... that will be fully used only in case of evacuation from a nuclear catastrophe ...

I like modern and minimalist designs and architecture, but this is very underwhelming, looks a bit outdated actually.

If I am reading this correctly, the old terminal was 13,000 sqm and the new one additional 10,000 sqm? So basically Sarajevo and Ljubljana will have nearly same-sized airports after both complete the expansion?

Yes total terminal area is around 23400sqm, old terminal is 13400sqm, however plans for Ljubljana expansion once terminal hits 3.5 million passengers per year is to add 3 additional air bridges for total of 8, currently there are 5, 1 added as part of this expansion and existing 4. The next phase could add additional 10-12000sqm to current 23400sqm for total of nearly ~35000sqm, this would allow for traffic of at least 5.5 million passengers per year. Yes it is not anything size wise what you have at Zagreb or expanded Belgrade airport, but it is sufficient for needs of Slovenia.

With the current management i highly doubt they will even hit 1,5 million in next 10 years.
