Belgrade has been selected as the host city for the specialised EXPO 2027, which will take place from May 15 until August 15 in 2027. As part of the development of the exhibition area a new rail line is planned, which will link the airport both with the EXPO site and the New Belgrade station, from which passengers can connect onto the existing main line, which stops at both Belgrade’s main railway station, as well as the Karadjordjev Park and Vukov Spomenik stations in downtown Belgrade. The new railway line will be built from New Belgrade station and pass the Zemun station, from which it will continue onwards to four new railway stations - Autoput, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, Surčin and National Stadium station, where the EXPO site will be located.
I'm afraid that this is going to be like hosting Olympic Games or World Cup, a lot of costs for zero long term use... although the rail link will come in handy afterwards too. And ofc huge KUDOS to Serbia

DeleteI assume the comment wants to say that the projects related to the EXPO itself will not bring long term benefits to Belgrade. Other than the connection to the airport that is pretty small for having a rail link, but it can be useful in the future.

ReplyDeletePosle objave dobijanja medjunarodne izlozbe EXPO BELGRADE, ovo je druga najznacajnija vest u Srbiji i iz srbije danas. Pred Srbijom su tri godine da se zavrse sve obaveze. Ukljucujuci i gradnju pruge za Aerodrom i do EXPO Centra i Nacionalnog Stadiona.

Ostaje da se radujemo i odavde iz Sidneja.

DeleteMeni je licno jako zao svakog ko se raduje ovakvom bacanju javnog novca. Beogradu, ali i Srbiji generalno, nedostaje osnovna infrastruktura. Delovi Beograda nemaju kanalizaciju, grad nema ni jedan pogon za preradu otpadnih voda, dobar deo grada smrdi upravo zbog toga i taj problem je mogao da se resi tim novcem. Da ne pominjem saobracajne probleme, stanje GSP-a kao i prigradske zeleznice koja bi morala da se modernizuje i kojoj bi kapaciteti morali biti povecani pre nego sto iko pomisli da se linije sire kao stadionima koji nam ni ne trebaju. Ulice u Beogradu su u jako losem stanju, kapaciteti mreza snabdevanja strujom i vodom su odavno premaseni, dok se vi iz Sidneja radujete tome sto ce javni novac otici u privatne ruke zarad dogadjaja kog apsolutno ne interesuje vecinu mestana Beograda.
What kind of Expo is this? I know that Rome and Abu Dhabi are running for hosting the event.
ReplyDeleteThis is a specialized Expo. It has a smaller format, and lasts a little shorter. It is held between the main Expo fairs. The next Expo is in Japan. I linked that Expo with Marek's announcement of possible flying to Japan
DeleteIf you have to take a train to New Belgrade, then another train to Prokop (neither of which will run every 10 minutes, I'm sure) and then a city bus to your final destination, imagine the length and agony of this journey. I would love to see the feasibility study and economic plan behind this project. Though I'm afraid it's just a useful distraction from other pressing issues in the country, as well as a nice opportunity to stash some more dollars in the pockets of businesses close to the government.

DeletePeople that use public transportation in Belgrade every day have every right to be afraid.
BG voz is something that is essential but terribly connected to other forms of transportation, and current timetable and rolling stock are at best terrible. Just look at Rakovica station, or everything on the left bank of Danube. You need to walk about 10 minutes from Krnjaca Most railway station to the first bus stop that could take you to the neighborhoods on Zrenjaninski Put. We need real improvements, and not the ones that are used for show. A1 and 72 work just fine for now and until everyday life is improved, these projects are just making the dissatisfaction in the city bigger. So instead of actual modernization and improvement we get a line that most of the city residents will have no reason to use.
Ok, you think the airport does not need a rail link, other people do. Other people can have a different opinion to yours.

ReplyDeleteThe airport rail link is a must. BEG grows year by year and ZRH in 1980 had 7.62 Mio Passengers. 1981 they opened the city rail link. BEG is already at that figure now
But 1104h anonym is right, lots of own pocket industry, probably long term not sustainable and yep, medical infrastructure should always be on top prio agenda
Not sure why Serbia needs national football stadium, with that money, they cld hve refurbished Maracana and Partizan Stadium, so both ckubs wld be happy.
