NEWS FLASH

The construction of a rail link that will connect Belgrade's central railway station and the airport is progressing on schedule and is due to be completed by the end of next year. "Construction on this railway line is progressing exceptionally well. We conducted a site visit, engaged with the workers, and thoroughly reviewed all the documentation essential for the successful implementation of a project of this magnitude. I am pleased to announce that all planned construction work is progressing according to schedule and will be completed within the contractual deadline - by the end of 2026", Serbia's Minister for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Aleksandra Sofronijević, said. She added, "The rail line will enable a fifteen-minute journey from the airport to the city. I am confident that this will finally put an end to the issues we’ve faced at the airport - from unregulated taxi drivers to other disruptions - ensuring that passengers can reach Belgrade safely, quickly, and at a fixed, reliable price".

The new 18.3-kilometre suburban rail line will link Belgrade Airport to both the city and new National Stadium complex where the 2027 specialised EXPO event will be held. Trains on the new rail line will run every half hour, and up to every fifteen minutes during peak commute times. Trains on the new track will reach speeds of 120 kilometres per hour. The new rail line will run with the following stops: Prokop (Central) - New Belgrade - Tošin bunar - Zemun - Altina - Zemun polje - Singidunum - Belgrade Airport - Surčin - National Stadium.

The taxi issue will just move to the train station end now

They should at least rebuild existing train stations Karaðorðev Park, Vukov Spomenik and Pančevački most so at least people can go to different parts of the city. Beograd center is nice station but without metro, not very convenient.

It would be better if the train went all the way to Ovča to cover Karađorđev park and Vukov spomenik stations, because Prokop is not very convenient, especially for people living in Zvezdara, Palilula and city center.

That is correct, however, low entry trains cannot be operated at Vukov spomenik and Pančevački most - they need to lower the station platforms first, and that will not be any time soon.

Then use high entry trains, they are more comfortable? And raise one of the platforms on city stations, to that everyone can enjoy it.

Low floor trains are much more convenient, especially for passengers with luggage. Anyway the whole BG Voz fleet will be modernised at some point.

This should become first metro line. From Ovca to Obrenovac. And build few more underground stations along the route. But it can start like this next year.

And how you're supposed to reach city centre from central railway station, with a single circular bus line? Where is metro?

    1. Anonymous14:28

Metro is not even supposed to go to Prokop. But the third line will connect to Novi Beograd station.

The third line is actually supposed to connect to Prokop per the plans. However, the projection of the line is happening right now, as the contract for that was signed semi-recently. So we are still waiting to see the actual map for future line 3.

Funny that this will probably have almost zero impact on airport, but substantial impact on the city itself. Airport is already connected to the city with fast and free buses 600 and 607, basically the same routes as planned train. But the airport train is basically BGvoz with increased frequencies, hopefully with new or repaired stock, and this can be very beneficial for the city. If the line will be continued to Vukov Spomenik this will be huge.

It's a pity that this solution is going to be build.
    - the station is to far away from the airport-terminal
    - the route to the city goes to much around
    - it does not serve the station in the center
But maybe something better then nothing

It should not take more than 50-60 steps from when you exit the train car until you enter the terminal building, if this was properly planned. Second train stop should be for the airport’s long term parking. Ideally, this train route should have gone tru very densly populated neighbourhoods in New Belgrade rather then tru the vaste farmlands, or even loop back from here towards NBG train/bus exchange after the national stadium/Expo site.

Yeah, it's about 600m to the main terminal, or about 8-10 min walk. It must be a covered walkway to protect from rain, snow and sun. Too bad it wasn't a wee bit closer, but it's not so bad.

Realistically if they’re gonna make a sidewalk it’s just going to be a regular sidewalk. I really hope they do because that whole area looks very shabby anyway. I reckon if they do build a sidewalk the lot by the gas pump would likely get torn down and the existing lot gets an extension.

I think that 600 m is not acceptable as it is too far. Also who is the person who drew/designed this route and how much experience do they have with successfull projects of airport to downtown rail design? They must use relevant experienced people as consultants in these things.

Investment into infrastructure for the common good of the society is not robbing money. From the infrastructure you build now generations of people are benefiting from. I understand if people argue about the need of an Expo in Belgrade. But to build a rail link to the city for an airport with soon 10 mio annual passengers is a good thing. Zurich got in May 1980 the railways station. 1980 ZRH had 7.6 mio annual passengers. So not a real bad timing for BEG

Why is it they cannot sort the taxi issue? I was there last year, got in at 23.30, and was charged 2100 dinars to go to hotel in Surčin which is right there. Was that normal price or was I ripped off? Thats about $30 AUD.

When I was there last time, a taxi driver created a queue by not accepting anyone wanting to pay by card, claiming that he can only take cash as his terminal was not working. As none of us had any cash, he finally gave up on that story and took us, accepting the card payment after all. Pretty sure most of taxi drivers there commit tax fraud, don’t report most drives/revenue.
