NEWS FLASH
The construction of a rail link that will connect Belgrade's central railway station and the airport is progressing on schedule and is due to be completed by the end of the year. The rail line will enable a fifteen-minute journey from the airport to the city. Work is ongoing at the site of the future airport train station, located approximately 500 metres from the terminal building, as well the rail route itself, with various engineering structures currently under construction.
Trains on the new line will operate every thirty minutes, with increased frequency, up to every fifteen minutes, during peak hours. The double-track, electrified railway will run at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour.
The first four of nine trains manufactured in China that will commute on the line will arrive in Belgrade this year, with the remaining five set to be delivered in 2027. “These trains have been developed on a reliable, proven and safe platform of Chinese regional and suburban EMUs [Electric Multiple Units], tailored to the operational characteristics of Belgrade’s urban rail system. They are three-car electric multiple units, measuring 63.2 metres in length, with a battery range of up to five kilometres and a total capacity of 380 passengers, including 90 seats and 290 standing places”, Ljubiša Pejičić, the acting CEO of train operator Srbijavoz, said.
Testing of the new railway line is expected to commence in January 2027, with the track to be put into use in spring.

Borderline idiotic that the line doesn't go to Vukov spomenik and Pancevacki most. This government can't do anything right.
ReplyDeleteYou can just hop off at Prokop and catch the train to Vukov Spomenik. It isn't that difficult.
Deleteagreed.
DeleteBigger issue is it being 500meters from the terminal. But better something than nothing...even if it is poorly planned.
DeleteIt really isn't the issue and is the case at many airports across the world.
DeleteIt really is difficult because BG voz is downgraded, its frequency now is more than an hour
Delete@10:36 yep. The poorly designed ones. In urban planning 500meters is at the borderline of what would considered in anyway integrated. I'm glad they are doing the railway but it could have been done better with more thought.
DeleteThe issue with continuing the train past Prokop is that the platforms at Vukov Spomenik and Pančevački Most were build in a time before low-floor vehicles were a thing. For the train to be able to stop there, the platforms at those stations would need to be lowered, and when they attempted to close Vukov Spomenik for half a year to carry out those works, they were met with so much backlash that they just... kept the station open
DeleteAt Istanbul Airport (IST), considered a mega hub, it takes close to 20 minutes from the arrivals hall to the train station. The train line does not go anywhere near the city centre either,
DeleteVukov spomenik train platforms need to be adapted first for new trains, once that is done there is no reason not to extend the service to it and further on to the others on the line.
Deletewhy is it not going to the airport building?
DeleteWhere would you like them to build it for you? On the airport roof or for the airbridge from your aircraft to be connected to the station
DeleteCan't they make a covered walkway with moving walkways with moving walkways taking you straight from inside the terminal to the train station like Manchester airport has?
Delete@10:44
DeleteWhat are you talking about, what backlash?
When did this gov't ever show that they care about public opinion?
They demolished part of Belgrade disguised in balaclavas for god sake.
@Anon 11:12
DeleteTrue dat.
Underground obviously.
DeleteLet's hope the national stadium and the expedition halls will actually be ready on time for the EXPO...
DeleteAnon 11:20 wouldn't that be too expensive and time consuming?
Delete@11.20 and how many years would you expect that to take? And you would again complain probably that you can't use the car park because they would have to demolish it.
Delete10:49
DeleteYes, I also think they should demolish new air tower and build train station for you. They still have old ATC tower to use
^ So you admit that both the new tower and the whole new terminal construction was wrong from the begining since it failed to acommodate the railway link.
DeleteIt's actually the old tower, where some irrelevant offices are today, which would have been the perfect spot for the station. But experts know better
DeleteYou are the true expert who thinks trains should be so close to the tarmac and can fly over the airport complex to reach the old tower.
Delete@Anonymous 11:41
DeleteI did not expect much better from the geniouses who decided to build a new runway too close to the old one so that they can't be used simultanously!
Foresight and long term planning are not the typical strengths of our region and Vinci took advatnage of that by opting for the cheapest possible options in order to maximize their investment.
Those who decided to build a whole new rail line and station only to stop half a kilometer away from the airport and the only way for passengers to reach it would be a shuttle bus or on foot is something other than an expert!

Well, thankfully in Zagreb, the station at the airport will be underground next to the terminal. Plans are being worked out and if funding is in place, 6.5km link will be built in 2027/8. Half of the link will be underground. connecting existing Sisak - Velika Gorica - glavni golodovor line with the airport. 500m from the terminal ain't smart, unless they plan to build a hotel or something near it, so they put the station so far away from the terminal.
Delete^ 😂
Delete@10:44 they didn’t want to close the station because of platform work. They wanted to change the escalators, because the company maintaining them was Russian, and they wanted to bring in a French company. The idea to do both the escalator change and platform lowering simultaneously was floated around at the time, but ultimately both were abandoned
Delete11:41
DeleteI can only admit that you are typical zama disciple with typical zamas ignorance. Both new tower and new terminal are built exactly where they should be. And they are built by french company that runs dozens of airports around the world. So they know surely better than self proclaimed expert analysts like you are. Only total ignorant may think that 120km fast train may come close to the passenger terminal, crossing right through gas station, fuel depot, parking garage and whole cargo department area.
11:44
Why would you know that second runaway couldn't be built anywhere else due to illegal housing? You wouldn't be an ignorant then. And if they start to demolish those houses, you would be the first to complain
It remains unclear how exactly will the station be connected with the airport terminal. If by shuttle bus, that's less than optimal solution, to say the least.
ReplyDeleteI hope too they don't do this, it would be a complete joke.
DeleteEspecially if you have big luggage with you, pentranje as people say in Serbia
DeleteSo true!
DeleteWhat worries me the most is the actual capacity of the "station", it literally has the same design as the ghost station in the fields Singidunum. No extra tracks or platforms, just a railway stop with not so massive platforms. I can already predict that the actual number of passengers will exceed their expectations and then what?
ReplyDeleteNational Stadium station will have 3 or 4 tracks, why didn't they do the same here at the airport? The airport deserved much bigger rail link investment to say the least.
+1000
DeleteIf demand is high at the airport railway station they can increase frequency times to compensate.
DeleteTo increase frequencies they would need extra train sets.
DeleteSo be it.
DeleteBut it can be done.
Zato što je stanica Aerodrom prolazna a stanica Stadion krajnja. Na krajnjoj stanici su potrebni dodatni koloseci za parking kompozicija koje se trenutno ne saobraćaju.
DeleteWhat happens when the Stadion station line is extended to the Beograd railway ring which is eventually planned? Onda neće više biti kranja stanica.
Delete* krajnja
I use the train to/from Novi Sad to Belgrade it will be great to take the train from the airport right downtown Belgrade.
ReplyDeleteThat won't happen until they lower the platforms at Vukov Spomenik. Which is planned.
DeleteBut that would be great.
The station location is inconvenient now and in the following period. But somewhere in the future, a new terminal should be built in that place and the train station moved beneath it, underground. That location was the original plan for the airport expansion and new runway.
ReplyDeleteOnce built this station will never be moved.
