Air One to suspend Belgrade service

Air One says arrivederci to Belgrade

Alitalia’s low cost subsidiary, Air One, will discontinue its service from Milan Malpensa Airport to Belgrade from January 10. The three weekly Airbus A320 service, which has been operating for just over three months, failed to generate much interest. The Serbian capital is just one of several destinations the no frills airline will cancel in the coming month. Services from Milan to Munich, Warsaw, Kiev and Cagliari, all of which were launched this summer season, will also be terminated in January. The news will be warmly welcomed by Jat Airways which is in direct competition with Air One on the route. From January, Jat will once again be the sole operator on the Belgrade - Milan service. Alitalia continues to code share on Jat’s flights to Milan.

Passengers who have purchased Air One tickets for travel after January 10 will be refunded. Those that booked their flights via Alitalia will be transferred onto Jat’s flights. Air One struggled with its Belgrade service from the outset. Despite an ad campaign across the Serbian capital, the airline regularly cancelled some of its weekly flights. Jat Airways records solid loads on its Milan service as it also carries a large amount of transiting passengers from the United States and Canada.

Belgrade is Air One’s second failure in the EX-YU region. Last September the airline scheduled services to Zagreb, however, due to poor ticket sales, the planned flights were cancelled. Air One merged with the Italian national carrier Alitalia in January 2009. Although it continues to operate as a separate brand, the two use an integrated booking system. Air One operates a fleet of ten Airbus A320s. All of its aircraft feature a high density cabin layout of up to 180 seats.

      Jedino su JAT i B&H Airlines orocili sredstva kod Airbusa, jedni 1998 a drugi 1999 godine. Medjutim , problem je u tome sto AB ne daje kamate na orocena sredstva. Navodno, sada su obje kompanije u paketu za isporuku novijih tipova a319 i a320 ?!?

    I admire Serbian people rejecting these low cost carriers ;-). I'm sure jat's fares were no higher then on Air one. Of course one is assured of a high level of service on jat. I just hope jat will be able to sort itself out with new aircraft soon!

    Hard to pick one.. a airline fleet from the age of dinosaurs or a low cost airline that props the pax like a box of matches inside.

    I would take the boot or swim from italy..

    Stupid schedules, poor timing... = canned service. Air One needs to think about convenience - this is a massive point-to-point route where weekend travel and frequencies are essential. Seems they have not learned their lesson from their past failures.

      Going on this board, you hear occasional comments about people wanting better connections to western Switzerland. Milan is a good option to connect by train.

      Can't do that when the plane leaves Milan at 7am

      It doesn't matter because Air One's entry into the Serbian market did not represent something new. Jat Airways already operated the route and the fares were already low.

      Yes but the cancellations were all on routes which have already had services, so it is not a big deal.
      Also, there was Qatar and new routes by Wizz Air so it is not like the airport is seeing reduced frequencies.

      2013 will be an interesting year for the airport. So far only Aeroflot has announced its changes but there will be more to come.

    Alitalia is on a verge of is broke and their loses are 630.000 eu a day and air one will go same route
    so they are running away from all unprofitable business trying to stay alive

      Because it is flown with a 737 and fiat workers want to be in the front cabin. They are going to a business destionation not ryan air to some zadar or zagrab. Also Jat can connect you to sjj, skp, skg and tgd by offering good timing.

      It's not about flying C, but it is about flexibility. Also, FIAT people use AZ's FCO route, that's why they always send their A321 on Fridays - their schedule is very convenient for flight after work day.

    BEGs new arrivals for 2013

    Aeroflot going duble daily
    Pegasus for weekly
    Flydubai adding one extra to make it six weekly flights
    Qatar is pretty new and expected to increase
    TK going double daily again

    I am confident of 4 million pax.

    I think now is the time for Wizz Air to launch the successful Bergamo route and replace Air One. Schedule was ridiculous but prices were very good. I hope LOT doesn't cancel WAW too.
