Flydubai will temporarily suspend its flights to Zagreb during November and December. The airline, which will maintain three weekly services to the Croatian capital this winter season will discontinue operations on the route from November 3 until December 27. Ticket sales have been suspended for this period. Passengers with bookings on these dates are being informed of the cancellation and offered alternative transport. In a short statement, Flydubai told EX-YU Aviation News the flights were being temporarily suspended due to "operational reasons", adding that "Europe remains an important market for Flydubai". The carrier's services to Belgrade (four weekly), Sarajevo (four weekly) and Skopje (two weekly) remain unaffected during this period.
Not surprising. Yet we were hoping for Qatar to drop down first.

DeleteActually Zagreb is very busy in December and first two weeks of January, Xmas market in Zagreb is very popular event with 120-150 000 tourists visiting the city for the event, and ski season starts with first two weeks of January Snow Queen and Snow King events being held on Sljeme. Both events are packed with visitors, especially from Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, however most visitors drive to Zagreb due to short distances.

DeleteYeah, I don't see EK coming over night plus if FZ has severe issues in ZAG, I doubt EK is having ZAG as priority considering they would invest wide body....ultimately, FZ is not cutting the route in full.

DeleteFZ doesn't have strong brand like EK has, and are soon moving to DWC. EK has seen success of EY in BEG and QR in ZAG. If they connect those two cities with one flight to DXB, they would ceartainly fill plane and take pax from other two arch rivals. Squash two flies with one stroke.

DeleteEK tagged flight vs double daily EYJU in BEG and soon double daily QR in ZAG, all non stop? Yeah, right. If EK comes to either ZAG or BEG, it will be non stop flight. That being said, I dont expect them soon.
DeleteAnd how did QR come in ZAG and BEG? With direct flights? They broke the ice, showed there is a potential in this market, but now bigger fish comes in, that has almost double capacity of QR and EY combined. Capacity that increases even more everyday and those planes need to fly somewhere. They have more planes which means more destinations and possible customers, and the best hub of all 3.

If the market proves after first season, then they can start sending planes directly.
And with ASL and BEG owned by state, which will surely try to protect its investment, that means BEG has better standing at the start of negotiation.
The thing is that now you already do have ME3 competitors with established services, wasnt the case when QR entered. Completely different situation.
DeleteI don't see how QR broke the ice when it comes to Belgrade when they were among the last ones to link Serbia with the Persian Gulf. Even Jat operated flights to DXB/AUH before they arrived to Belgrade.
DeleteJAT operated flights at the different era of persian gulf aviation. Most passengers were O&D. Now, most of pax are tourists and diaspora, that switched from using EUB3 hubs to MEB3. I agree that market has been set, but EK is bigger than the other two combined and has power to seriously hurt other 2 if it starts to fly, and most certaintly won't be empty.

DeleteActually JU flew to DXB because of EK's Australian network. They had a successful interline agreement.
DeleteI am not saying EK will come, because it won't. I am just saying that BEG had these flights long before every village started getting them.

And what those villages are Nemjee? BEG and ZAG are villages in scale with most of the EK destinations.
DeleteI wasn't speaking only about EK, I was speaking about all of the ME3 where EY and QR launched flights to some smaller cities out there. EK not so much, they can't for obvious reasons.

DeleteSadly FlyDubai had too few flights to make it a viable alternative to Qatar which is packing.
However, there's a good chance an airline from South East Asia starting flights to Zagreb, I am not mentioning Singapore or Malaysian (if they'll still be around after massive looses, two aircraft lost), however Zagreb Airport is negotiating with major South East Asian airline for seasonal flights in 2017, we'll know more in mid to late October.
Puger, how do you anticipate future FZ ops in ZAG and related possible development?

DeleteSarajevo was twice daily from end of May until end of this month in addition to Air Arabia daily A320 to SHJ, some days 4 daily flights between SJJ and UAE. Next year FZ will start double daily to SJJ in April to October! So, if Emirates is coming anywhere near Ex Yu market is in Sarajevo!
ReplyDeleteNot really, since EK is network carrier, not primarily point to point. Overall newtork demand to BEG and ZAG is much, much bigger than to SJJ. Not to say I expect them in ZAG or BEG, but those two cities are miles and miles ahead of SJJ in terms of network demand.
