The development of Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport’s new passenger terminal is advancing on schedule with construction expected to be completed by the end of the year. Testing of the new terminal and its equipment is scheduled to commence in January 2021, while its opening is set to take place in June that same year, just ahead of Slovenia's six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which begins in July. Stretching over 10.000 square metres, the new terminal will feature a new departures hall with 22 check-in counters, five security lanes, three baggage carousels, a new baggage sorting facility, a large duty free shop, a new premium lounge, as well as new food and beverage facilities. The existing passenger terminal, which stretches over 13.000 square metres, will also be partially renovated. The two facilities will then be joined to form a single functioning unit. The new terminal will be a spacious fusion of concrete, wood and glass, reflecting the nearby Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
The question is for who do they build it?

One of the biggest planning failures in aviation in Europe. Almost everyone in the industry knew that Adria was going to bankrupt but the expansion started anyway. Now we have an airport losing 30% of its pax and doubling its capacity at the same time! Hilarious :))))
ReplyDeleteMindset like this is the exact reason why we missed every opportunity in Slovenia. We just can't see past tomorrow, that's why we lack in infrastructure, economy and everything else.

This Adria thing was the very reason why we still don't have the new terminal that should've been built many years ago. It was the same story every year - "we don't know what's gonna happen with Adria, so we will wait with all the investments". Meanwhile all other airports have been expanding and now we are where we are. Thank someone that germans are so smart, have strategy and weren't scared off by Adria's collapse.

DeleteLet's reflect on the traffic. 30% loss is completely wrong. Yeah, the apt did loose most of the transfer pax, but general traffic and pap flow is nearly back to where it was. And it will just continiue to grow, now that actual trustworthy airlines are flying.

It’s perfect, new terminal who’s needed it? If all flights are so expensive it is better to drive to airports where flights are cheapest than to Ljubljana airport. It is obvious that simply is not working selling few expensive flight tickets and half of the plane is empty.
