NEWS FLASH

Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Swiss will end their complimentary meal and drink service in economy class on short haul flights starting from the 2021 summer season, affecting all their routes in the former Yugoslavia. "Our current snack offer in economy class does not always meet the expectations of our guests", Christina Foerster, Member of the Executive Board of the Lufthansa Group responsible for Customer, IT & Corporate Responsibility, said. She added, "The new offer was developed on the basis of feedback from our customers. With the high-quality offer available for purchase, our passengers will be able to decide what they want to eat and drink on their journey”. The range of food and beverages will be available from the individual airlines in various forms, some of which will have regional references. The focus will be on fresh products and a selection of snacks. The standard, complimentary snack will no longer be served in the future. Austrian Airlines will be the first to roll out the new meal and beverage buy on board product in the spring, followed by Swiss and Lufthansa.

Instead of being market inovators and leaders Lufthansa is now following what Air Serbia introduced couple of years ago. There were many negative comments when Air Serbia introduced Buy on Board but we can see now they were right.

Doubt they will ask just 4 eur for a sandwich like Air Serbia.

At Air Serbia you get a free snack - chips or biscuits, as well as a bottle of water. In Lufthansa, Austrian and Swiss you will no longer get anything for free.

I paid about 480 Dinars for a combo, not just the sandwich.

When JU stopped with free sandwiches one guy said he would never step on a JU plane again. Well you are not going to step on Swiss, Austrian and Lufthansa ever again.

Lufthansa have never been market innovators and leaders. Just look at their cabin configuration and how they have routinely been the last in Europe to roll out lie-flat seats in long-haul business, or direct aisle access, or anything else.

Why don't you establish an airline with full catering yourself and survive during a pandemic like this one?

Customers might have asked for a better product, not buy on board. I flew on LH in March and we got a stake chocolate chip cookie.

Honestly I do not give f*ck to their stories about big chefs working for their caterings. On airplane our taste buds work differently. What I ask is water or tomato juice on board.

Lets wait and see how long this lasts. Austrian tried this on three occasions and they always reverted back to the full service model. Otherwise no need to fly Swiss, LH or others just choose the best price.

That's exactly the problem because LH Group has high costs so they can never win the price war. I give them a year before catering is back.
