NEWS FLASH
Ljubljana Airport welcomed 37.604 passengers last month, a significant improvement on the disastrous January of 2021 when it handled under 5.000 travellers. The figure is still down by just over 50% on the pre-pandemic 2020 and have decreased 63.7% on January 2019 during which Adria Airways was still in operation. Overall, during the first month of the year, Ljubljana Airport registered 1.399 aircraft movements. The offered seat capacity from Ljubljana in January stood of 64.6% of January 2020 levels.
I think they are doing their best. It an entire company behind the airport. We should just wait and see how it goes.

The market indeed took care of itself. Your expectations or wishes about which destinations should be served or how many passengers should LJU have, have nothing to do with reality. Slovenians do not like to fly, simple as that.
DeleteHow strange, that all the planes out of/to Istanbul, Moscow, Frankfurt, in the last time even Dubai, are usually full. Slovenian do travel from LJU after all. Let me mention also, that some times Aeroflot and Turkish even sent A330. Hmm ...

DeleteAnon 16:57/16:59 not only these routes you mention, its much more. Also count all Slovenes travelling from ZAG, VIE, TRS, VCE... that don't from LJU because Fraport doesn't give s sh*t about LJU and keeps trying to get rid of competition in order to feed Mutti Lutfi.
DeleteI am not really supporting them. I am just sattisfied that the demand exist. I am always saying that LJU and ZAG have to coexist next to each other. LJU gets also many passengers from lower Austria (Klagenfurt, Villach), while ZAG serves both Croats and Slovenes. There is enough demand for both, which is proved by many routes that coexist (Dubai, Istanbul, Moscow, Amstersam, London, Brussels, ...).

If thats no a disaster then I don't know what it is. And we still hear from Govt. and Fraport (and their fanboys) that everything is perfect and normal. Bravo Fraport! Bravo Slovenia!

DeletePassenger numbers will improve greatly, once the situation with covid calms dows. It is true that the number of destinations will be reduced compared to the "Adria times". But the LF on the Lufthansa flights to FRA, MUC are far better compared to when Adria was flying there. I am a Slovene and know many people, who travelled from LJU via Frankfurt lately. In the times of Adria, I don't know of a single one. There were all using Lufthansa or Croatia Airlines flights from ZAG. So I am very pleased, that Slovenes now travel to/via Germany (finally) fron their home airport.

DeleteTrue. But people nowadays, when Lufthansa is flying to Frankfurt, choose this option far more often. Before, when Adria was here, no one I know even considered looking at the tickets from LJU with Adria. Adria was known as being too expensive. Now this has changed. I have noticed that from the very beginning when Lufthansa took over these flights.
DeleteIn this part I agree with anon@17:22. Connecting flights with LH from LJU are much much cheaper now than they used to be with JP. Much cheaper, however this does not help us at the point of airconnectivity. This one is much worse. And low air connectivity affects business more than expensive tickets.
DeleteMy God I just can't believe how bad air connectivity is in Slovenia. With Adria (and other airlines combined) we had daily CPH, SJJ, double daily AMS, BRU, VIE, SKP, TGD, PRN, TIA, triple daily CDG, ZRH, FRA, MUC and also SOF, PRG, MAN. Now maybe 1/5 or 1/6 of that was replaced. And there are still people who thinks everything is better without Adria..
DeleteAir connectivity is worse, indeed. Considering the great success of some relatively new routes (Istanbul, Moscow, Dubai), I believe LJU will get better connectivity also. But it will take time, unless the conditions or subsidies change, the way they did in ZAG.

DeleteMajority of Slovenes never even considered checking the price of the Adria flights. They just weren't used to fly with Adria, it wasn't really their habbit.
DeleteIt wasnt their habit? hahaha. I dont believe many people drove to ZAG to fly to FRA, ZUR, MUC, CDG, AMS, when JP was around. For sure there were people, but they did it because ZAG is closer, not because OU was that much cheaper. But people had driven and they keep driving to VCE because of better non stop fares, more options and (even when JP was still alive) much cheaper connecting flights. I dont know many people who drove to VCE to fly to London when LJU had 10-15 weekly flights to different airports in London. I was no JP fan, because its fares were on the expensive side and I hated those worn out CRJs, but it was providing the basic air connectivity. Why Slovenia as the first exyou republic who joint the EU never really got any big HQ for the EXYU market or for the SEE market? One of the reasons was also our air connectivity. Senior managers just do not fly every 2-3 weeks over 2 hubs only to get to LJU. But this does not really surprise me. Zero vision, not just in aviation, but in general.
DeleteSlovenes are VERY strange in the way of purchasing tickets. You said no one would drive from Ljubljana to VCE to catch a flight to London. I can tell you people were (are) doing that, even when LJU had 3 daily to London. They did it just for the sake that they paid 20€ less for the ticket.
DeleteThe same will be now, when Transavia is starting flights from LJU to Paris Orly. Despite Orly airport is basically inside Paris city zone, many people from Ljubljana will drive to ZAG, to catch a flight to Beauvais, just for the sake of 20€ in ticket price difference. Then they will pay almost 40€ for the return train ticket from Beauvais airport to Paris.
DeleteThere i agree completely with sloavio...zero vision unfortunately. 5 years ago mr Skobir was talking about Ljubljans beeing a hub for the balkans. No matter what we think of this, we should dream big invest some money and effort, so we might achieve something. But unfortunately our biggest infrastructure projects are replacing 40 years old trains and 20 years too late building a road to Koroška, which is all good, but that is a must not something we are putting Slovenia on European map. Unfortunately in aviation (and also other areas) we now stepped 20 years back and instead of trying hard to change something, we are trying superhard finding excuses why this is so and why we cant do anything, not to mention how we will never admit that things are not better either cheaper without Adria.

Even tho adria was ex0ensive they had the best slots no one will ever have again beside Lh for lju flights.
Yeah, the best slots are lost, even if there will ever be a new national carrier, which i highly doubt. I hope the new GOV will do something about the air connectivity. Setting up a new national carrier or getting one to base 3-4 aircrafts at LJU is a must. ASAP.
