NEWS FLASH

Russian carriers have suspended flights to markets in the former Yugoslavia due to a ban on overflights by Russian-owned, Russian-registered or Russian-controlled aircraft in most of Europe, including Slovenia, Croatia and Macedonia. These measures will affect Aeroflot’s operations to Belgrade, Zagreb and Ljubljana, as well as Nordwind Airlines’ services to Belgrade, Zagreb and Skopje. The Russian national carrier operated its last flights to Zagreb and Belgrade yesterday, with the return service from the latter having to fly via Greece, Turkey and Kazakhstan in order to avoid the majority of European airspace. The flight from Belgrade to Moscow took over five hours, instead of the usual two and a half.

Russian airlines will stay with just a fraction of their fleets: European aircraft lessors (AerCap,SMBC Aviation Capital, Avolon) must collect their aircraft from Russia by the end of March, that means hundreds of planes with an estimated value of 5 billion USD. Plus Rolls-Royce will suspend all its activities with Russian aviation by the end of February (today).

Is this not an opportunity for AirSerbia to provide the link to Russia? They could hire several planes to service potential extra demand?

I just pray that all this issue will come to an end one day soon. Human lives are perishing. War is just not good. There is no winner. Both sides will suffer. My greatest concern is the children who know nothing about what is going on.
