NEWS FLASH

The Macedonian Minister for Transport and Communication, Blagoj Bočvarski, held talks with officials in the United Arab Emirates last week, during which the introduction of flights between Abu Dhabi and Skopje were discussed. Commenting on the matter, Mr Bočvarski said, “We discussed the importance of establishing nonstop flights between Skopje and Abu Dhabi with the aim of deepening economic cooperation. Talks will continue in the coming period between our two friendly countries. The UAE supports the establishment of flights between Abu Dhabi and Skopje, which would develop passenger traffic, tourism and cargo”. Back in December 2020, Mr Bočvarski said Wizz Air Abu Dhabi would launch services between the two capital cities, with ticket sales to commence in January 2021, however, the announcement never materialised.

Why is skopje obsessed with UAE flights when it first needs to be connected to main European destinations especially if it (supposedly) chose to become a part of EU? Even Moldova has flights to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Dublin, Tel Aviv, Lisbon, Brussels, Prague to begin with....also what happened to the flights to Barcelona? Today, the airport is mainly connected to nothing but German or Swedish villages and some Turkish or Swiss destinations. It also seems they are still looking to work with only 1 airline instead of trying to bring newer ones. If something ever happens to Wizz, SKP is doomed for sure.

Since SKP dont connect us Macedonians to Amsterdam , Frankfurt , Munich , Paris , London Heathrow , we are stuck with any flights. We jave only villages for where our diaspora lives , but what for those who live in Macedonia , what for those who willing to go to Asia , North America or Australia , to go anywhere I need to change 3 flights which is crazy. SKP first need to connect us to at least 1-2 main Europes airports then everything else. Only istanbul and vienna is not always a solution. We need other airlines not only Wizz , Turkish and Austrian , if Wizz leaves wr are down to the bottom.

For Asia and Africa: AMS, FRA, MUN, CDG,LHW won't offer cheaper prices than IST. Actually a lot of people from AMS travel via IST to go to Asia. But for North and South America we defenitly need AMS and FRA. However KLM has a staff shortage so KLM isn't really able to start new routes and we don't have are own airline. AMS is anti lcc and won't let wizzair fly to Schiphol. Frustating thing is that AMS is for JU,OU,LOT and Austrian one of the most or most important transfer destanation from SKP, but KLM hasn't started SKP. However we still need Gulf flights for Australia. Also Memmingen/Munchen West is planned daily from between may and october 2023 and now it's 4 weekly. But a Lufthansa flight from Munich to SKP is not possible. I have a friend who lives in Frankfurt and he hasn't used Frankfurt-Hahn the past 2 years when he went to SKP but flew with Austrian. So the best for the Macedonian market would be to reduce frequencies on Memmingen and stop with Frankfurt-Hahn becasue there are already Dordmund and Colonge in the Northrijn Westfalen to make a btt space for Lufthansa, but Wizz will never do that.

Wonderful destination for the period Nov-Mar, but the visa issue is critical. 500EUR for visas for a 4member macedonian family is too much.

The entire LCC flights to the Gulf concept makes very little sense to me. I haven't compared prices, but I can imagine prices to e.g. TK aren't that much different whereas the service on a 5 hr flight is drastically different in a legacy vs a crammed LCC

Better bring AF in SKP first, then we'll talk about UAE flights.
